Young Thug and Young Dro go EDM on “Top Notch”

If there’s one thing we know, and love, about Young Thug, it’s his versatility. His ability to give you a variety of different styles (sometimes on just one record), is matched by very few, in any, in Hip-Hop, today.

Teaming up with Niko the Kid, Young Dro, and “Stoner” collaborator Dun Deal, Thugger digs into his EDM bag, for “Top Notch”.

The cover art kind of suggests that there might be more music on deck from Thug and Dun Deal, but who knows? What we do know is Slime Season 3 will be out February 5th. In the meantime, press play on “Top Notch”.

Migos Drop “Back To The Bando” Mixtape and Announce Departure From 300 Ent.

People are probably asking “Yo, didn’t Migos just drop their debut album?” Yes, “Yung Rich Nation” is still very much new and in our minds, but what does a trio of ATLiens that seem to be everywhere do now? Drop another tape of course. Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff return to their creative space of origin on their aptly titled project, “Back To The Bando.” The 15-cut work is feature-free with production from Dun Deal, Murda Beatz, and of course the Midas touch of Zaytoven. On the heels of the release, Migos also announced they’ll no longer be doing business with Lyor Cohen’s 300 Ent. and a new business deal may be in the works. Like I said, they’re everywhere.

Part of 2 Chainz’s T.R.U. collective, Skooly’s career is heading in the right direction. With a new solo project on the way in “The Black John Gotti,” the Atlanta rapper unleashes a new track titled “Kim X Rose.” Inspired by Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose, the Dun Deal produced track is a banger and should make its rounds in the strip clubs of Atlanta.

New Music: Young Thug feat. Wale – “Stoner” (Remix) (prod. Dun Deal)

Midway through his first verse and at the tail end of his final verse, Young Thug breaks cadence and starts repeatedly wailing, “I feel like Fabo.” He’s not saying that to be funny or to establish his rap nerd credentials. Rather, just like Fabo, Young Thug has an uncanny ability to channel all the frenetic energy of being high into a song. This energy manifests in the various flows he adopts throughout the song and his ambulating voice, which sounds both enhanced and completely natural. Wale‘s presence momentarily grounds the song, bringing us back to the main rhythm of the frenetic Dun Deal-produced beat with some nicely coordinated rhymes, but at the end of the verse, even he feels the need to adopt Young Thug‘s unpredictable vocal style. Listen below. Like we implied on our recent best albums of 2013 list, Young Thug is currently hip-hop’s premier experimentalist. This is how he works.

UPDATE: According to Young Thug, this isn’t the official remix. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying though.
