The Lion King (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

As you probably know, the super-updated version of the classic film The Lion King is set to hit theaters next Friday Thursday (July 18th). Today, fans get to check out the official soundtrack, features some sangin’ actors and a score courtesy of Hans Zimmer. Included in the 19-track offering: an original cut by Beyoncé titled “Spirit,” and re-imaginings of childhood favorites like “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” (random but necessary shout-out to Elton John).

Big K.R.I.T. – K.R.I.T. IZ HERE

I can’t believe that it’s been almost a decade since the release of the groundbreaking K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. This weekend, Big K.R.I.T. decided to provide a proper sequel (?) for that project titled K.R.I.T. IZ HERE — a 19-track body of work that also sees additional appearances from J. Cole, Yella Beezy, Lil Wayne, Saweetie, Rico Love and more. Check it out below.

Blood Orange – Angel’s Pulse

This weekend, Dev Hynes somewhat surprises his fans with a follow-up to the still-rotating Negro Swan. Check out Angel’s Pulse, a 14-track offering with additional appearances from Toro y Moi, Project Pat, Gangsta Boo, Tinashe, Justine Skye and more. He explains:

“My new record is called ‘Angel’s Pulse’ and I performed, produced and mixed the entire thing myself… I’m calling it a mixtape. I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time.. I decided to release it… I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them. I’m older now though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying… so here you go mates.”

Master P – I Got The Hook Up 2 Vol. 1

Master P is back. The man who gave us turn-of-the-century classics like Da Last Don, I’m Bout It and, well…all of No Limit’s classic musical catalog is back with an official sequel for the timeless hood flick I Got the Hook-Up, and fans get to enjoy the soundtrack before its release (UPDATE: The film’s out now). The accompanying compilation sees a slew of dope features: Jeezy, Calboy, E-40, YFN Lucci, DC Young Fly, Fat Boy SSE, Romeo Miller, Silkk The Shocker and more make appearances on the project. According to published reports, Atlanta writer and producer Donald Glover is teaming up with his brother Stephen Glover to serve as the show runners, executive producers, and writers of a new animated series based on Marvel’s Deadpool comic. While the show does not currently have an official title, nor have any voice actors signed on yet, it was ordered by the network for 10 episodes for the first season with a slated debut date in 2018.

Alongside his overall success with the award-winning comedy drama Atlanta, Glover is also known for his role in the sitcom Community and will be seen next year playing Lando in the Star Wars Han Solo spin-off; but it’s not stopping there. Glover also has a role in Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming and previously voiced Miles Morales in the Disney animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.

The Glover brothers will be the lead producers on the series but will be joined by Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory on the executive producer side, along with production by Marvel Television in association with FX Productions and ABC Signature Studios for FXX.

Deadpool, a profanely sardonic antihero, has been one of Marvel’s most popular characters since its debut in 1991. As portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool crossed over into the film with X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. Last year’s gleefully vulgar Deadpool was a surprise hit, breaking box-office records for R-rated movies.

Glover, a longtime television writer earned himself a Golden Globe for his work on his original FX series Atlanta this past year.

In other Donald Glover news, Childish Gambino‘s Awaken, My Love! will be released on vinyl this month. Originally released in November of last year, the third album from Gambino is getting its vinyl release on May 19. The set will include an exclusive booklet, a virtual reality headset to watch the exclusive VR live performances, and a glow in the dark cover.

News of the album’s vinyl release comes right as “Redbone,” one of the standout tracks from Awaken, My Love!, has gone platinum. “Redbone” is now Gambino’s third single to go platinum, alongside songs “Heartbeat” and “3005.”

After thanking Migos for providing the world with “Bad and Boujee,” Donald Glover went on to shout them out during his backstage speech. He called Migos this generation’s Beatles.

“I think they’re The Beatles of this generation and they don’t get a lot of respect, I think, outside of, like, Atlanta,” Glover said, according toVariety. “Not that they don’t get a lot of respect, but there’s a generation, sort of like the YouTube generation that I kinda came up with. There’s a generation of kids that are growing up on something that’s completely separate from a whole group of people.”

As if that wasn’t amazing enough, Glover goes on to say:

“Honestly, that song’s just fly. There’s no better song to have sex to.”

The recognition was great but what was even better that the song hit over 67 million plays on Spotify and the video now has over 93 million views on YouTube after that speech. Well, damn.

Childish Gambino has made his upcoming album Awaken, My Love available for pre-order on his website, thus revealing the tracklist in the process.

Two days ago Childish Gambino took to Twitter to confirm the rumors he has been finishing up a brand new album (see below). According to leaked information, the album was set to be coming our way December 2. It now appears this information came from a credible source, as Gambino’s website has posted the same release date.

Early yesterday the first single off the album, “Me and Your Mama”, premiered on Beats1 Radio and can be streamed below. The track is a total of six minutes long, transitioning between 3 distinct sections. The first section can be described as an ambient trance, leading  into grunge-induced blues which is evaporates back into an ambient trance.

Judging by the first single, and his incredible work on new FX series “Atlanta”, this album should be well worth the wait. Check out the tracklist for Awaken, My Love below. It’s unclear if there will be no features, or if they are too yet to be revealed.

Gambino has not released an album since 2013’s Because the Internet. Look for details to roll out quickly, however it won’t too surprising if the details are cryptic and abstract.

Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, and his girlfriend welcomed a bouncing bundle of joy earlier this year. A source close to the couple shared this information exclusively with US Weekly.

In January of this year, the actor and grammy-nominated rapper was spotted leaving a grocery store in Hawaii with his very pregnant girlfriend. Just four months later Glover was photographed walking next to his girlfriend down a busy New York sidewalk while she pushed a stroller.

Glover is best known for his role as Troy Barnes on NBC’s Community and now as Earnest Marks on his hit show Atlanta. When the Georgia native isn’t in front of the camera, he is behind the mic as the rapper, Childish Gambino. He hasn’t released any new music lately, but it maybe because of the success of his FX series, which has been renewed for a second season.

It is safe to say that the couple is looking for privacy since the name and sex of the baby have yet to be revealed. Glover’s character on Atlanta has a daughter named Lottie so maybe he was trying to tell his fans something all along.

Despite the utter shock all of Glover’s fans are currently experiencing, they couldn’t be happier about baby Gambino.

Donald Glover’s newest project hit primetime TV six weeks ago and it’s unreal.  Set in Georgia’s capital, Glover’s Atlanta  explores the often unglamorous reality of trying to make it as a rapper or manager. Centered around Ern (Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover) and his cousin/aspiring rapper Paper Boy (Brian Tyree Henry) it shows how hard it can be to just hit a lick and rap to make it financially.

Atlanta is arguably one of the most accurate shows related to hip-hop, the grind and the various issues present in Black communities in the United States. Not only that, it examines complicated family dynamics and the way one tries to juggle it all – the hustle, caring for your child, and still trying to have time for the people you love. So often we only see the lavish life a star lives after they make it, but rarely do we see their lives, the lives of those around them, and the struggle associated with trying to make it big.

In the first episode of the first season, we are confronted with a shocking death immediately, which leads us down a path to see the very flawed judicial system in Atlanta and alike communities. The show also brings up other important issues, like mental health and gun violence. As new episodes air, Atlanta delves deeper into each of these topics, building onto the social justice themes the viewer is presented with in the first episode.

In that way, this is one the realest portrayals of the life of being a rapper and of Atlanta to ever be created – a.k.a. if you’re not watching it, you definitely should be.

While the show is six episodes in, it’s not too late to start binging – Atlanta takes you into a different world, and truly represents the challenges that come with starting out in the music industry. The seventh episode of Atlanta airs tonight at 10 PM on Fox.
