The Carolinas are scorching right now with some of the biggest names in music arising out of those parts (Da Baby, J.Cole). And with big names breaking down doors, newcomers like Asheville’s Dnorri follow suit with his undeniable vocals and popular new music. He is a rising star with a resume that includes him sharing the stage with Nappy Roots, Crime Mob and Hip-Hop legend, Big Boi. Dnorri’s new song, “Everybody” is generating tremendous buzz and promising to be his breakout hit on the charts. Today, we get a chance to get familiar with the artist and talk about his journey, next moves and more.

Read the complete interview below.

You’ve been around the world but tells us what the Carolina sound is all about, define it?

Honestly, I don’t know if I could really define what the Carolina sound is all about, but what I do know is, that every artist that has come out of Carolina whether it was Petey Pablo, Antony Hamilton, Jcole, Dabady or Fantasia, we all have had a unique sound that the rest of the world outside of North Carolina has grown to love.

How has traveling influenced your sound and places you would refer artists to visit to influence their creativity?

It’s influenced my music by exposing me to different sounds, that I couldn’t get locally. Any major city that’s diverse, that’s going to give you a wide range when it comes to sounds.

The Carolinas has finally gotten their just due in today’s Hip-Hop being an artist from the region with so many opportunities at your fingertips, how does feel seeing the success of those before you make this possible for you to follow suit?

It’s dope to see the success of artists before me from NC. I respect that because it’s not easy to do, North Carolina has a lot of amazing artists, so when an artist does make it in the music game, it’s BIG. Much RESPECT to all the unsigned artists that are grinding. Much RESPECT and a shoutout to all the genre of music artists in Asheville, NC. Them Mountains got talent.

You’ve shared the stage with countless legends. Who’s live performance had the biggest influence on your live show?

I can’t really name one. I’ve been influenced by so many, I don’t want to leave out anyone.

Your music is filled with positivity, who are some artists that you credit to forming your custom style of Recording?

I hate these kinds of questions because you always end up forgetting somebody, but here are some Prince, Michael Jackson, 2Pac, Biggie, Outkast, Pharrel, Jay Z, Beyonce, The Black Eyed Peas, Will Smith, Puffy, Lizzo, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Nipsey Hussle, Nas, Jcole, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, Common, George Michael, and so many others in the game that’s put out and putting out positive inspirational songs today.

What does the current climate in America have on your creativity in new material?

My song ‘EVERYBODY’ most definitely fits the climate, ”look around” everybody needs somebody praying for them, . When you listen to my song it’s almost like you just got prayed over. I’m not a preacher tho, so you may hear a cuss word or two. Just a fair warning.

With so much going on right now, how do you maintain positivity, peace, and prosperity?

Really?! is it 420 yet?! lol Nah but yea that works too. Praying, wrestling with my French Bulldog although I always lose, unless I give him food, and just trying to do my part using my music to heal the world or using my voice to stand up for what’s right. Not being silent, when needed.

Do you feel your music is educational?
For sure, you most definitely will learn something. But don’t look for it to be the ABC’s.

Your most important song to date and why?
My song “EVERYBODY” because it’s real, I used my self as an example of needing prayer, but at the same time not to forget we all need somebody praying for us during hard times.

The best advice you’ve received in the music business about the music business?
To Learn the Music Business.

The best advice you’ve received about creating music?
Be you, believe in you when others don’t, and never give up, even when others might.

What’s next for Dnorri in 2020?
More New Music and so much more…time will tell.
