Often overlooked, but a vital part of getting tracks spins outside of playlists and internet promotion, DJs remain very important today. Kevin Benjamin, better known as DJKB, is a 19-year-old DJ propelling out of Kearny, New Jersey. He started his career in 2014 as one of the youngest DJs and moved away from his hometown to avoid close-minded individuals. Now, DJKB is opening for major acts like Lil Durk, Cardi B, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Roddy Ricch, and many more. Check out our conversation with DJKB below.

Define RESPECT.

People look at respect in many different ways. Whether it’s family, friends, or everyday life. Respect to me ties in with loyalty. Someone that keeps it real with you one hundred percent at every time, no matter what.

What are the conversations like as a DJ?

Conversations with DJs vary depending on who we’re speaking to. If it’s the kids, I always tell them to stay positive and stay in school and to always follow their dream. Talking to artist, I support all of them. Giving club spins, to listening to they’re track in my email, to giving them personal advice on how to grow as an artist. However, every conversation is positive and always keeps myself and who I’m communicating with motivated.

What’s one of your craziest moments as a DJ?

One of the craziest moments in my career is when I first got to DJ at a Club that a company called “Alistteens” got me booked for. It was the first time I’ve ever touched the DJ set in front of 200 plus people. To be honest I wasn’t feeling nervous at all. It was something I always dreamed of and it was all starting to come true in front of my eyes.

What’s next for you?

My next career move is to continue to shut down these clubs and concerts. And soon to throw my own concert based events. My goal is the next 5 years is to be able to throw my own “Summer Jam” in New Jersey.
