]]> Feek & Stevie deliver sonic hilarity on ‘Favorite Word.’ Feek & Stevie (or Rick and Morty Sanchez as they’ve been known to be called) grab Killer Mike and DJ Trackstar for a cut that combines crafty lyricism, comedic elements, and a fortified believability in the craft. ‘FW’ has the Bay area bounce in the production; a California originated sound that is energetic, uplifting, and catchy to say the least. The records’ feel sets the stage for what sounds like a satire cut, but upon further review, Feek & Stevie are beyond-capable lyricists who’s wit and rap acuity are in perfect sync. “Last night threw a party in your girlfriends mouth/nobody was invited but me, the rap terror/nobody came but me, now that’s clever/made your girl open her mouth like mascara” and “ Now I might get married to Marijuana/and if I ever have a sponsor I hope it’s ganja/was thinking about hittin’ you chic for top/I can’t get lost in thots, now that’s a double entendre” are minor glimpses into how to transform comedic wordplay into something that is Hip-Hop viable; it’s wildly entertaining and that’s what Feek & Stevie do, they wildly entetain. The Killer Mike vocals and a readily identifiable sample from Too Short (yes, it’s ‘Blow The Whistle’) add that much more substance to the duo’s already promising track. To the uninitiated, Rick Rubin is the guy lying on Jay-Z’s couch barefoot during the Samsung commercials. He’s also the guy who molded Yeezus into an accessible album. For those in the know, he’s a legend. Rick Rubin co-founded Def Jam Records with Russell Simmons and he was instrumental in the careers of the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and many more.

However, Rick Rubin’s work is not limited to hip-hop. He has also worked with the likes of Slayer, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Black Sabbath and others. Because of this, DJ Trackstar, along with the Smoking Section,  included a melange of genres for this best-of tape. Note: this is only “some of” the best of Rubin, because as his Wikipedia page points out, the man has plenty more hits. Stream the project below and download it here.

Trivia: the mixtape’s subtitle, “Ruined by DJ Trackstar,” is a reference to Rubin‘s tagline, “Reduced by Rick Rubin.”
