Harlem, USA representative Cam’ron along with Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Hell Rell and others inspired a generation of youngsters to live organically, free and creative.

One person who took cues from Cam’ron and the Diplomats is Houtston, Texas rapper, T-Wayne. Best known for his 2015 single “Nasty Freestyle” a track that peaked at # nine on the US Billboard Hot 100, T-Wayne’s Kylie Jenner song is so reminiscent to Cam’ron’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

“I followed some of Cam’ron’s interviews where he talked about how Prince was a legend,” T-Wayne told me on Scoop B Radio.

There’s a very good chance that former NFL great O.J. Simpson will be a free man by the end of 2017.

Simpson is scheduled for a hearing in front of the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners in Carson City, Nevada tomorrow, July 20 via video from the Lovelock Correctional Institution. Simpson was convicted in October 2008 on 12 counts that included conspiracy, burglary, kidnapping, robbery, assault and coercion, all with a deadly weapon for his role in a October 2007 robbery attempt in a Las Vegas hotel room.

In the robbery, Simpson took hundreds of pieces of memorabilia from two men. Simpson and his accomplices brandished a gun during the incident and the former football star told others in the room that no one could leave. Simpson indicated that he was trying to retrieve items that belonged to him which included family photos.

Fast forward to 2017. If a simple majority of the four commissioners vote in favor of parole, Simpson will be released in early October.

The parole board will give judgment on Simpson based upon his time spent in the Nevada facility and not based upon the murder case in the 90s.

For those tardy to the party or not even born yet, Simpson was charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Simpson was acquitted on the murder charges but lost a $33.5 million judgment in civil court for the deaths of Brown and Goldman.

Alan Dershowitz was a member of Simpson’s defense team that included Robert Shapiro, F.Lee Bailey, Robert Kardashian, Gerald Uelmen, Carl E. Douglas and Johnnie Cochran in the case many dubbed the Trial of The Century. Dershowitz once wittingly said: “The defendant wants to hide the truth because he’s generally guilty. The defense attorney’s job is to make sure the jury does not arrive at that truth.”

Fully and full of quotes, the scriptwriters for the 1996 American film Jerry Maguire could only wish to come up with something so pointed.

But I digress!

Dershowitz has been in the news as of late. Dershowitz recently tried to publish an opinion piece in The New York Times that U.S. President Donald Trump likely did not attempt to obstruct justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey. According to a recent interview with the Washington Examiner, Dershowitz reached out to the New York Times in June to the paper to present an opposing view.

Always opinionated, I chatted with Dershowitz on a recent episode of Scoop B Radio about race.

Dershowitz explains his feelings on representing African Americans in the courtroom over his career particularly during the O.J. Simpson case where race was a previaling theme. Did race hinder or hurt Dershowitz in representing Simpson both professionally or personally?

“Personally not at all,” Alan Dershowitz told me on Scoop B Radio. “It was a very important case it was a case that told us a lot about the racial situation in America. When I got into the case he was facing the death penalty.”

Check Out Alan Dershowitz & Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on Scoop B Radio

Dershowitz added:

“Over my long career I’ve represented lots and lots of African American people; both defendants and others. I was in the Civil Rights Movement, I was down south in the early 60s. So that, part of it was very easy for me. For me the biggest thrill was having the chief counsel on the case being an African American and having all these white lawyers really working for a really brilliant, terrific, African American lawyer.”

The African American lawyer Dershowitz was referring to was the late Johnnie Cochran.

In his closing arguments in the Simpson trial, Cochran famously stated: “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.”

“He really was in charge,” Dershowitz said of Cochran.

“That sent a powerful message to people watching. That also sent a powerful message to the jury. So I had worked with lots and lots of African American lawyers before, but this is a case where some of the world’s prominent white lawyers in the country, F. Lee Bailey, Bob Shapiro, Barry Scheck were all working for our leader who was an African lawyer, he was the leader, Johnnie Cochran.”

Cochran was the only attorney in Los Angeles ever to receive both the “Civil Trial Lawyer of the Year” Award and the “Criminal Trial Lawyer of the Year” Award. In 1995, he was named “America’s Trial Lawyer of the Year” by The National Law Journal, as well as being named one of the “Headliners of the Year” by Time magazine. In 1999, he was named one of the “Top 50 Trial Attorneys of 1999” by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Dershowitz is currently a Harvard Law professor. He’s penned books like: The Best Defense (1982), Chutzpah (1991), The Advocate’s Devil (1994), Supreme Injustice: How the High Court Hijacked Election 2000 (2001), The Case for Israel (2003) and Taking a Stand: My Life in the Law (2013).

Simpson’s Dream Team. Photo Courtesy of FOX News.

Famed defense attorney F. Lee Bailey, represented Simpson during the trial. Bailey along with Robert Shapiro, Alan Dershowitz, Robert Kardashian, Gerald Uelmen, Carl E. Douglas and Johnnie Cochran were dubbed Simpson’s Dream Team.

Bailey disagrees with that notion. “No, because it had some good lawyers, some not so good,” Bailey told me on Scoop B Radio.

Check out F.Lee Bailey and Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on Scoop B Radio

Bailey who also secured a reversal of Dr. Sam Sheppard’s conviction in the murder of his pregnant wife in the 60’s and an acquittal at his second trial and represented Albert DeSalvo, who claimed to be the Boston Strangler weighed in more on his assessment of the Simpson Dream team lawyers.

“Johnnie Cochran tried his best to keep an even keel in the atmosphere of the courtroom we were working in. That wasn’t very easy and he was not always successful. Although Johnnie was a very good lawyer, I enjoyed working with him and became his good friend, but apart from that the dream team was not as well coordinated as it should have been and the work was not apportioned out on a very thoughtful basis in my view.”

According to Bailey the Simpson case was rather long and he just wanted to do his work and go home.”A lot of people were competing for the limelight,” said Bailey.

“I just wanted to get out of there because California trials are an imposition on anybody that gets wrapped up in them. The Patty Hearst case was worth three weeks of trial; indeed that was forecast. It was wrapped up in three months even in a Federal court. The O.J. case might have been three months total, it took over a year. That’s pretty unnerving for someone who has other clients to worry about, other places to be.”

Lonzo Ball is the talk of the town in Las Vegas this week. The newly minted Los Angeles Lakers point guard began the Summer League posting five points on 2-of-15 shooting (1-of-11 from downtown) and five assists against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Lakers would lose 96-93 while wearing his signature Big Baller Brand ZO2 shoes that are retailed at $495.

Ball would right the ship on Tuesday against the Philadelphia 76ers by notching 36 points in a win against the Philadelphia 76ers. The face of the Big Baller Brand also turned heads when he donned a purple pair of Kobe Bryant’s Kobe AD sneakers.

“At BBB, you can play in what you want,” Lonzo Ball told ESPN’s SportsCenter after the win. “I already played in both of my shoes, might as well get the ‘Mamba Mentality’ going. Put ’em on, and it worked out tonight.”

Last night,, Ball tried on another pair of shoes: James Harden’s Adidas Harden Vol. 1 LS kicks.

Ball, the Lakers’ rookie and number 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft messed around and got a triple double in the three stripe kicks. He posted 16 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds in the Lakers’ 94-83 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA’s Summer League.

Lonzo’s dad, LaVar told ESPN.com’ Darren Rovell:

Retired NBA All Star and TNT’s Inside The NBA studio analyst Shaquille O’Neal has been running through headlines the last couple of days. People Magazine reports that Shaq will make a run at becoming a police sheriff in 2020. Earlier this week, the iconic NBA center announced that he’ll be the cover athlete for next season’s NBA 2K18.

Dude is blessed, dude is talented and The Big Aristotle has always been ahead of his time!

All homage goes to the man upstairs and also to great parenting. His late step-father, Army Sergeant Philip Harrison and his living mother, Lucille O’Neal raised him and his three other siblings: Latifah, Ayesha and Jamal.

In the spirit of Mother’s Day, this Sunday, Lucille O’Neal joined me on episode #56 of Scoop B Radio.

On the show, Momma O’Neal, an author and a motivational speaker, described her most memorable Mother’s Day gift; a cutting board, that Shaq made with the inscription that reads, ‘Lu’s Kitchen.’

“I still have that cutting board,” she said. “And the reason I love it is because when we get in the kitchen together and I cook fried chicken and macaroni and cheese, that cutting board always comes to my mind. It was one of my first Mother’s Day gifts.”

“Biggest sacrifice was maybe not having the money to pay a bill or having money to pay a bill and used it when my children had a need for it. I made many sacrifices but those are some of the ones where I would just put them first, I always put them first. Still do sometimes. But I don’t look at it as a sacrifice, I just am happy I’m able to do it. You know when you become a mother it’s no longer me first, it’s family first.”

She even detailed her Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund, a fund in honor of her mother who passed away April 2, 1996:

“She had a great legacy, she loved people; a strong woman of faith and she just had, I mean tremendous love for everybody. So we put our heads together and came up with the Odessa Chambliss quality of life fund and we’re raising money for nursing scholarships out of the resources and the money that we have raised since 1996 we were able to get a building named in her honor on the campus of the great Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach.”

The next generation of O’Neal’s are entering the basketball world. Lucille O’Neal is a grandmother of fifteen grandchildren. `Her grandson, Shareef O’Neal, Shaq’s son, recently committed to the University of Arizona. When asked whether Shaq was as talented as Shareef was at that age, Momma O’Neal replied: “I have to say yes.”

She furthered that assertion by stating: “Because I’ve watched the development and it’s something that I’ve seen before. The world is seeing it because of the way that information gets out. But I’ve seen the progress, it’s in his genes he has a special gift. And he and Shaquille, I believe will be playing different positions. Shaquille was a power player in the middle of the paint, but Shareef is a finesse player and he can also play in the paint, so he’s good and his dad was good too.”

Momma O’Neal shared something that was a shocker: she played basketball herself. Everybody talks about how great of a hooper her son was, but apparently, she checked the rock at the center position, also. “Because I’m tall so I played the middle,” she said.

She said her game wasn’t bad. “Nice defensive game not concentrating too much on the offense, but played defense because we were only able to go half court. The game is much different for women today.”

She added: “When I played basketball it was so quiet because we were only able to play half court. Now they have the WNBA where the women play as well as the men and they dominate the game at every position. I never played that level.”

It takes a village to raise a child and an even bigger village to help maintain an athlete’s success once they have arrived, the O’Neal family is basking in plenty of success these days. This past year, Shaq was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, had his jersey retired by the Miami Heat and a statue of Shaq was erected outside of Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Staples Center Statue is a second in his honor; his first was built at his college alma mater, LSU. When asked about which recent accolades stood out the most, she paused for a minute and marveled.

“When we leave this earth we want to leave a legacy and those two statues are reminders of the legacy of Shaquille O’Neal,” she said.

She admitted to being impressed with the statue at Staples Center:

“The couple that made that statue they did a phenomenal job. It’s beautiful, it is detailed all the way down to the tattoos. And I really am I amazed at that one because it’s not the final but to end a career after so many years and have that monument it’s something special about that. The ultimate gift that every basketball player wants is to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, but to get a statue oh my it’s something. I don’t have a word for that, so out of all of that I guess it’s those two, the one at LSU, I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it but it’s beautiful as well.”

Lastly, Momma O’Neal is fair, but she’s also honest. That’s what mothers are supposed to do. Earlier this season, the Golden State Warriors’ JaVale McGee, (who by the way has been playing inspired basketball this season) and Shaq got into a war of words that found their way via Twitter and on the set of TNT’s Inside The NBA’s Shaqtin’ A Fool segment.

As per Rolling Stone Magazine: While many believed O’Neal had finally taken it too far – The Mercury News’ Marcus Thompson II wrote about the reasons O’Neal was out of line – it wasn’t until Momma O’Neal, stepped in that he realized it was time to put an end to their long-standing feud.

“I have orders from the top to leave it alone,” Shaq told ESPN’s The Undefeated. “No, [not NBA commissioner Adam Silver]. My mama. Just say Shaq’s mom, called him, told him, ‘Stop this silliness. Leave him alone.’ So that’s the end of the beef”

What in the world did she say? “Well the conversations that my son and I have, I really want to keep confidential,” Lucille O’Neal told me on Scoop B Radio.

“But what I encouraged him to do was let it go because a war of words can go on forever. I mean it can go on a long time and some things are better left unsaid. So there had to be a cutoff point and I knew it was time so I encouraged him to just let it go. Brandon when I was growing up we used to say sticks and stones can break your bones but words will never hurt you that is really not true, because words can hurt you. So with the war of words going on both of them were hurt so it was just time to let that go.”

Sounds like wise counsel.

Shifting gears: it’s holiday time. Mother’s Day is on Sunday. What are holiday dinners like in the O’Neal household?

Take us on home, Momma O’Neal:

“Okay for Christmas we have a lot of fruit and nuts because we love fruit and nuts,” she said.

“Turkey, collard greens, potato salad , sweet potato pie , rice , macaroni and cheese, cake, all of those things that we really don’t need but we enjoy because Christmas and Easter those are special days. So we just eat what we like. We put aside whether or not it’s good for us. We just have what we like and if we can get something a little different if you come to visit we ask you to bring one of your favorite family dishes. But for the most part we sit back we eat, we laugh, and we get to know one another all over again. Hopefully a day will come when I can be in one place with all of my grandchildren and their parents and we can just take a nice family photo, because we’re scattered. I got grandkids in Texas, grandkids in California, and Grandkids here but my dream is to be in one place with all of them so I can take a nice family portrait.”

Sounds like a plan to me! Lucille O’Neal is about family. As the matriarch of her family, she genuinely embodies that. Good food, good advice and great conversation; who can beat that?

Happy Mother’s Day, Momma Lucille O’Neal!
