We’ve been proponents of Devin Milesfor some time now, and his latest track, the dramatic, self-assured “Only Thing That Matters,” is one of his best. With a flow that cleverly falls behind, catches up, and falls behind the beat again that builds a triumphant tension, Devin sets out his mission statement: “I’m tryna cover the good, the bad, and everything between / and be the voice of reason for everything that bleeds.” Boaz assists with a solid guest verse, and gets extra points for referencing one of our favorite, lesser-appreciated Pusha T songs, “I Still Wanna.”

New Music: Anti-Lily feat. Devin Miles – “Blue Dream” (Phoniks Remix)

Phoniks puts his touch on Anti-Lily’s “Blue Dream,” which originally appeared on his Memoirs & the ’90s mixtape. The song is transformed into a more heartfelt, introspective late-night record, complimented with some scratches. Devin Miles adds a verse, as well. Anti-Lily and Phonik’s Stories From the Brass Section is due out January 31.

Devin Miles doesn’t leave the studio – at least not until sunrise. After finishing his latest record at exactly 4:12 in the morning, the song title was obvious. Miles brings his trademark bravado and confidence to the smoky, jazzy beat, but the mind tends to wander in the late hours, as the Pittsburgh rhymer notes, thus he also peppers in some thoughts about his rocky relationship with his father for balance.
