The Oakland Raiders with one game left in the season managed to hold a record of 12-3. However, their playoff success may be limited due to the injury of their starting quarterback Derek Carr who suffered a broken right fibula. With their former MVP candidate out indefinitely, it is hard to predict what is to come next for the surprisingly well rounded Oakland team. With their backup quarterback being Matt McGloin, questions surround how the team will cope with such a lost.

Matt McGloin in his fourth year in the NFL has been loyal to the Oakland Raiders since 2013. On  Oakland he has not been subject to a lot of playing time. In the four years in the league, he has played in only 11 games. In the very few games he played, McGloin threw for 262 passing attempts and completed 153 passes. With a passing percentage of 58%, the Raiders seem to be taking a lost from their original quarterbacks passing percentage of 60%. Even though the two quarterbacks have similar percentages, the difference is the amount of games. Matt McGloin threw for 58% in two games. Derek Carr threw for 60% in more games.

There are two major ways this injury not only affects the team, but also the NFL as a . With the possibility of the Oakland Raiders losing early in the playoffs without their star quarterback, the NFL is left with two teams running the AFC Division, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.  The other way this move affects the outcome of the league is through the MVP vote. In my opinion, Derek Carr deserved to win MVP over Tom Brady and Ezekiel Elliot because of the teams they have. Even though they both have seen similar success in the league as Carr, looking at the attributes on each team, there is no doubt that Derek Carr has less. With him lacking the support that the other two have, Carr’s value is recognized further than Brady and Elliot. However, with such a devastating injury, it is hard for him to remain in the conversation of MVP.
