The grills are fired up, the pools are open, the ladies are out, and rooftop parties are a whole go. The only thing that makes these experiences better than they already are? Music. Good music. So below, I’ve listed four projects that should be spinning at you next pool party or cookout. No need to thank me. Just press play.

Daz Rinko has literally been building his buzz all year, and earlier this week, the Memphis emcee finally dropped his official debut, LIFTED. Other than GoldLink — who arguably popularized the Future Bounce sound — you don’t hear a lot of emcees trying to keep this wave afloat; but Daz Rinko is looking to change that, as well as bring an air of positivity that has been absent. “I am aiming to spread positivity and get people grooving during this rough stretch in Memphis, as well as the world in general”, he says. “Crime has been crazy, and I want to give people something to dance to. LIFTED is something they can look forward to bumpin’.”

If you’re a fan of Cleveland’s Tae Miles, then you probably thought he was NEVER going to drop this project. He talked about it and teased it for what seemed like years, but on June 21st — the first day of Summer — Tae finally liberated CurlPattern. With previously released projects like The Adventures of the Wahoo Village Warrior, and Throedie (which he released under the WiseGuy. moniker), CurlPattern is a bit of a contrast, as it is aimed more at appeasing the ladies. And that’s never a bad thing.

Jay Swifa – Haters Never Prosper

Most people know Jay Swifa as one-third of the Columbus, Ohio collective, Fly.Union. You’ve heard him rap, you’ve heard him sing, and you’ve definitely heard him produce — not only for Fly.U, but also for the likes of Pusha T, Dom Kennedy and more. Lately, it is his production on Jerreau’s banger, “Really Got It”, that has people talking. In addition to being praised by LeBron James, the song, known for its blaring horns, can be heard in one of the latest commercials for Beats by Dre. Now, Jay Swifa has released a project of his own; an instrumental project, titled Haters Never Prosper. Packaged as a mix, Haters Never Prosper is 25 minutes of straight vibes. Peep it.

There was a time when Jillian and Lucas — collectively known as New York duo, Lion Babe — would drop a song here and there, but leave their fans thirsting for an actual project. They ended that drought earlier this year, when they released their impressive debut album, Begin. In a surprise move, Lion Babe has doubled back, to give us even more new music, this time in the form of Sun Joint, a new mixtape that has ‘cookouts and pool parties’ written all over it. Trust me. You really want to have this one in rotation; especially if you enjoyed their latest jam, “Endless Summer”.

Ahead of the release of his upcoming debut album, titled LIFTED — slated for a June 22nd drop — Memphis product, Daz Rinko cranks out another banger, this time for “Luv Ya”.

Produced by IAMNOBODI and Chris McClenney, “Luv Ya” is an upbeat joint that is packed with feel good, summertime vibes. “I was listening to Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall album heavy”, says Daz in regards to the inspiration for his latest offering.

I heard this song and immediately wanted to dance, much like I do when I hear joints from the likes of KAYTRANADA and GoldLink. In the first verse, Daz reels you in with lyrics that shine a bright light on catching up with an old thing from around the way, and then in verse two, he turns it up a notch, remembering when people didn’t pay as much attention as they do now.

“I remember days when I used to beg n*ggas to press play/And muthafu*kas still wouldn’t listen/Now them same dudes hit my phone like Dazzy you puttin’ on for the city/Young n*gga I’ma kill it”

At this rate, Daz Rinko won’t be slept on much longer and LIFTED is sounding like something that will need to be in rotation all Summer ’16. Stay tuned.

Nowadays, music is dropping at a more rapid rate than ever, and unless you sit in front of your computer all day long, you more than likely will miss something. To try and help with that, we’ve created this new column, designed to put you back in the loop (somewhat, anyway). Kicking things off is Memphis singer, Apollo Mighty, who is easily becoming a favorite.

1. Apollo Mighty – “Magnetic”
With an upcoming project due this April, Memphis crooner Apollo Mighty unleashes a brand new heater, this time for “Magnetic”. Described as a song about “pushing the boundaries of one’s limitations”, “Magnetic” is vibes galore. This is one of those joints that sounds ten times better at night and even in the company of the opposite sex. Press play.

2. Ro Ransom featuring Kensei Abbot – “See Me Fall” (Y2K Remix)
Last year, New York emcee Ro Ransom teamed up with Kensei Abbot to give us the gloomy, yet trappy banger, we’ve come to know as “See Me Fall”. Ahead of the release of his forthcoming mixtape, Momentum, producer Y2K has revamped the track and it’s just as crazy as the original. Take a listen below, and be on the lookout for Ro’s next single, “Doppelgänger”.

3. Earlly Mac featuring Big Sean – “Do It Again” (Video)
If you’ve been following Big Sean’s career up to this point, then there is no doubt that you are extra familiar with Earlly Mac, as the two have always been close. As we get ready for Earlly’s upcoming EP, God Knows, he gives fans what they’ve been waiting for, reuniting with Big Sean for the extra player “Do It Again”. Peep the video, below.

4. Isaac Castor – “Hole In One”
Formerly known as Gameboi, Issac Castor is a rising emcee who calls Michigan home. With Arjun Singh delivering the hard-hitting production, Isaac goes full-throttle on “Hole In One”, and the kid is definitely talkin’ that shit. Take a listen!

5. Daz Rinko – “Angel” (Video)
Another artist who calls Memphis home is Daz Rinko, who recently dropped off a cleverly animated set of visuals to “Angel”, a bouncy ode to the ladies, similar to something you might hear from GoldLink. Daz’s upcoming project, L.I.F.T.E.D. is slated for a Spring 2016 drop.

Every guy, at some point, has encountered that girl that spends so much time in his head, that she should be paying rent. Daz vividly and playfully illustrates just that, in this new, Planet Giza-produced loosie.

Be on the lookout for Daz’s upcoming EP, due later this year. For now, enjoy “Angel”.
