The NARCOTECHS are back with the release of their third, and latest, LP, Tres, and once again, serve up another banger.  Without a doubt, the crew has been making their waves in New York’s underground scene for some time, and they’ve been faithfully delivering the sound their fans love.  Coming from the gritty city of NY has kept the crew true to the game with respect to the hip-hop culture, and they always pay homage.

Tres is packed with production from Doza da Drum Dealer, Ace Sinclair, Jay Pluto, Luminary & Just, and was engineered by Buck 3000.  Following a hilarious intro track, The NARCOTECHS deliver buzz-worthy records like “IDK” and “HANDS UP”, as well as the standout track “Side Chick Commandments” which exhibits an ill take on Biggie’s classic “Ten Crack Commandments”. “U Dont Run It” is also another track that feels like a tribute to the 90’s, displaying their respect to Three 6 Mafia.

It wouldn’t be a proper summer without a series of warm-weather bangers dropping out of the sky to lace our playlists. And the latest track to fit that bill is producer/deejay, Infamous DJ Haze’s  “I Love NY,” a fittingly titled track that shows love to the city that never sleeps by enlisting some of its finest emcees. 

In addition to rising artist, Dax MPIRE, it features lively appearances by New York bruisers Sheek Louch (of The Lox and D-Block) and Uncle Murda. The two Hip-Hop vets flex their rhyming muscles across the super-hype instrumental, which interestingly enough flips a familiar sample used to show love to the opposite coast. That’s right: it’s the very same Joe Cocker flip made famous on 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s mid-’90s classic, “California Love.”

Infamous DJ Haze has thoroughly updated it, though, with a modern sound brimming with huge drums and oozing with swagger. At the same time, he’s also remained true to what made “California Love” such a summer staple. That means “I Love NY” absolutely slaps and features a hook that’ll stay embedded in your brain for days. Good luck not singing along the second time that chorus hits; it’s an earworm for sure. “I Love NY” is now available for stream below.

Though it’s quite clear New York City emcee, Dax of MPIRE has a solid team behind him, the verbalist proves once again he can shine on a mixtape chock full of fire features. On the lengthy 17-track tape, Pay Me in Power (PMIP), executive produced by Dax himself and Luminary, you’re in for an array of tough beats which range from the smooth and pensive to the turnt’up thanks to production help by Scram Jones, V Don, Aqua StoneThrone, Mike Mulah, OP Supa, and DJ Daze.  Along with a heavyweight line of production, you’ll find notable features such as Steele (SmiffNWesson), Paul Cain (The Family), Murda Mook, Nutso, AG da Coroner, Kaeson, Rrose Rrome and A.L. (Natural Elements).

Dax doesn’t lack in matching the various sounds on his project, ensuring he switches his flows frequently, whether he’s rhyming laid back and Sinatra-esque on “My Way” or spitting rapid flames on “Do What I Want,” the dude is relentless in displaying his power in the booth. Another eclectic in the project are the varying themes found throughout. Dax waxes poetic about fighting off the haters while still being your own self-antagonist, struggling with inner demons, celebrating when you’re up and of course, including a nod to that special shorty in your life on “Stare At You.”  The bottom line is that Dax MPIRE has more bangers in the chamber ready to let off and even after an ambitious mixtape, he’s still only just begun.
