David Letterman’s show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction recently had Jay-Z for a dope sit-down. Letterman still has his late night charm, making him so easy to converse with.

The conversation starts with Dave calling Jay-Z “the Picasso of music,” which Jay-Z humbly receives via his classic laugh. Dave also stated that Jay-Z was his twin, and when he was a child, he had a paper route (to which Jay-Z responded, “me too”), hence the name of the episode. Jay-Z opened up and talked about everything from selling crack at 16, Kanye West, his mom being a lesbian and cheating.

El-P is having quite the week. First, Killer Mike’s phenomenal R.A.P. Music album, which El produced entirely, hit stores, then he took to The Late Show with David Letterman to perform a cut off his upcoming album, Cancer for Cure.

Along with Islands frontman Nick Diamonds, El gave a blistering performance of “Stay Down,” and even threw in an R.I.P. to MCA between verses. Cancer for Cure arrives May 22.

Last night Robert Glasper (accompanied by his band) closed out Letterman with a gorgeous song off of his newest album, Black Radio. The single includes the always-soulful Bilal on the vocals and Lupe Fiasco rocking the mic like a true poet. Just looking at the album’s features makes it a stellar lineup. Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michelle, Yasiin Bey and Ledisi are on the project which released on the 28th.

Michael J. Fox went on Late Night With David Letterman on Thursday to show off the recent announcement of the new Nike MAG 2011. Sneakerheads have engraved in their memories the scene where Marty McFly in Back to The Future Part 2 puts on the pair with its power-lacing capabilities. Sadly, this almost exact replica will only feature LED lights, but it will most certainly pave the way for more futuristic, illuminated sneakers.

The actor’s funny and ingenuous dialogue with Letterman included details of the limited edition shoes, where a stock of  1,500 going for $75,000 will be auctioned off on Nike’s Ebay website, and that the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. He also stated Google co-founder Sergey Brin will match the amount up to $50 million through 2012.

Janelle Monae can only be labeled one of a kind. Always wearing her uniform of black tuxedo and gravity-defying hair, Monae is easily recognizable and just as unforgettable. As Vogue Magazine described her, Monae embodies, “A different kind of diva.” She focuses on and remains committed to the true art behind her every move and influencing everyone around her.

Let’s start from the beginning: Monae was born in Kansas City, Kansas, but later moved to New York to study Theatre at The American Musical And Dramatic Academy. From there, she went on to be a singer, songwriter, dancer and performer who has already began to leave her creative fingerprints all over the music world. She is signed to  the Wondaland Arts Society (which she helped create) and Bad Boy/Atlantic Records.  Diddy, who Monae works with on Bad Boy Records praises her as, “A true visionary…one of the most important signings of my career.” Monae asserts her creativity through the short films, songs, music videos and performances she produces. Monae has already been nominated for a Grammy and just recently received the Vanguard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

Monae released two full length albums Metropolis and The ArchAndroid and collaborates with many other artists to create inspiring, artistic music and videos. Monae has learned to”embrace the things that make me unique and to continue being and even bigger agent of change, especially as an artist.” Unique she definitely is, and hopefully the music industry will grow and change from the antics of Janelle Monae.
