The self-proclaimed “saddest out,” Little Pain is back at it with “Pain Killers.” The track features a lo-fi, new New York style production from frequent Vic Mensa collaborator, Michael Uzowuru. The beat is cleverly complimented with unusual sentiments from some of hip-hop’s best off-kilter MC’s, featuring angsty musings involving suicide and loneliness with a mordant twist. The track features Wiki of Ratking, Lofty 305, Kool A.D. formerly of Das Racist, and Antwon. Little Pain maintains his style of a depressed MC seeking sympathy with clever lines such as “Bad bitches say I’m broke / but my grandma thinks I’m swell.” It’s good to hear Wiki’s frenetic style next to Antwon’s deep voice again since the former released Metro Nome over the summer. Listen to the track. If you don’t, at least check Little Pain out on twitter @PainDaThug.

The video for “Open Letter,” which is also Word O.K.‘s first song finds the Bay Area rapper lounging under palm trees and blowing some really preposterous smoke rings. Throughout the album, AD is in top, left-field, absurdist form, bouncing sounds off of eachother like Spaldings. Word O.K. features from Toro Y Moi, Talib Kweli, Mr. MFN eXquire, Lakutis, a funny title when you think about it, and more.

Geometrical shapes are used to either transport or help his characters travel from the wall to a universe of abstraction. It’s not about what he creates aesthetically but the impact it has on the viewers. Cells are thought to be the building blocks of life. But it is creativity that is the building block of living.

Beautiful Lou just might be one of the best kept secrets coming out of Texas, having already worked with artists like A$AP Rocky and Lil B. For his latest installment he teams up with Himanshu of Das Racist to reflect back on the nineties. This track is pretty sweet and definitely solidifies that Beautiful Lou is a force to be reckoned with. Don’t say we didn’t tell you so.

Bonnaroo’s hip-hop triple threat on day one — Danny Brown, Yelawolf, and Kendrick Lamar — was tough to beat. By day four, the rap roster had dwindled down to a mere Mac Miller. But Bonnaroo booked a diverse cast between Thursday and Sunday to satisfy its massive (and very white) audience, whose average rap fan was likely to be a moonlighter. So Das Racist probably enjoyed a bigger turnout than the GZA did, which is a shame, because Liquid Swords as backed by Latin funk rockers Grupo Fantasma was nothing short of incredible. Admittedly, that was a 2:30 a.m. gig, but so was Big Freedia, the queen sissy of New Orleans bounce music, and she was the talk of the press tent the next day.

Ludacris, however, was the most well-known rapper on the lineup, and his 90-minute set on Friday was preceded by rumors of a surprise appearance by 2 Chainz. Sadly, Tity Boi was nowhere to be found, but Luda ran through his catalog of proprietary songs and guest appearances like a pro. Saturday belonged to Questlove, who knocked out a killer mainstage set with the Roots before unexpectedly bringing out D’Angelo for his first American show in 12 years that night. And on Sunday, Mac Miller hit the stage under a grey sky for a well-rehearsed performance in front of a too hyped crowd.

Most of you probably have already scrolled down by now, so enough chitchat, let’s get to the photos. We tried to catch every hip-hop act we could, but hey, it’s Bonnaroo — shit happens. Missing from our coverage are Black Star, the Roots, the GZA, and Big Freedia, who all gave stellar performances. Apologies to the first three; we fucked up. Trust that there were conflicts of interest, whether because we were in the crowd partying or in a tent dying. As for Freedia, she’s got her own piece coming later this week. Stay tuned for that, but for now, check the flicks:
