Dale Grimshaw is back with his bloody paintings. The artist is currently painting the streets of London, UK where he produced the incredible piece above. Using a technique that resembles an explosion of pigments, the artist merges tribal war symbols represented by the character in red, and contemporary events represented by the police handling a riot and the burning buildings in the background. This artwork was painted for the Whitecross Street Party, taking place on July 20th and July 21st along Whitecross Street and Fortune Street Park in London.

A month ago, the artist was in Blackpool in the UK, where he painted a piece for the Sea, Sand and Spray Festival. The portrait shows a young adult wearing a mask of war paint.

Dale Grimshaw, painter and street artist, is one of the most respected figures in the London art scene. His childhood based in a difficult and potentially violent environment greatly influenced his art. Grimshaw turned his nightmare into abstract reality through his riveting pieces. The way that the paint hits his canvas creates a violent movement. In addition, the bloody color palette he uses resembles a crime scene.

The relationship the artist has to his art changed when he ” realized that it was ok to express some of the darker emotions in [his] art. For a long time I kept a lid on all these feelings.” His honesty in his street work and paintings is an inspiration to artists to let go and use art for its therapeutic virtues.
