More than a decade before we even heard a Migos record, there was a another group of dread-headed teenagers from Atlanta that were turning things up. In 2004 when hip-hop was interrupted with a sub-genre that we know as crunk music, Crime Mob were heavy contributors. It has now been a couple of months shy of 10 years since we have received an album from Crime Mob and there are reasons why we need another one.

1. We want another “Knuck If You Buck.”

In music there are a lot of fight anthems that come and go, but “Knuck If You Buck” has stood the test of times. The hypnotic feel of the whole record is enthralling from start to finish. It’s one of those songs that made you want to fight, but at the same time it made you feel like a conqueror even if you wanted to fight but didn’t. We need another “Knuck If You Buck” from Crime Mob. It will be hard remaking a classic of its caliber, but going back listening to Crime Mob’s entire self-titled debut album, we know it’s possible. The album was filled with other songs such as”I’ll Beat Yo A**” and “Put Yo Hands Up” that had the potential to be classic, crunk fighting anthems.

2. The production was underrated.

At least 75% of Crime Mob’s both albums were produced by group member Lil’ Jay (Jonathan Lewis). The drums used in the production spoke pure “southern bang”. The production was versatile. The perfectly balanced bass and keyboards brought an eerie sound that represent the south as well as crunk music well.

3. More southern female emcees, please.

There aren’t many females emcees representing from the South. Diamond and Princess were filled with charisma. They were the Gangsta Boo and Mia X of a new generation. With Princess delivering with her laid back flow and Diamond’s double-time rhyme style, they definitely stood out in the group with a male majority.

4. We want to hear the growth.

The members of Crime Mob were teenagers when they first released their self titled debut album. The topics on the album were all similar. On their second album, Hated On Mostly, we received a more mature sound and versatile songs that left us wanting more. On the way to reaching their full potential, everything stopped.

The ten year anniversary of Crime Mob’s last album, Hated On Mostly will be on March 20, 2017. Atlanta is hot and great things are coming from the south. Things have made there way back to where they were when Crime Mob left. The timing in hip-hop is right.
