When FWA dropped, it was only available to stream on TIDAL. Now it’s up on both Spotify and Apple Music for the first time, but it’s arrived with a somewhat different tracklist. “He’s Dead,” the James Brown-sampling “I Feel Good,” “Without You” featuring Bibi Bourelly, and “Thinking Bout You” are missing. Originally released in 2015, the 15-song FWA — Wayne’s 11th studio effort — featured guest appearances by Wiz Khalifa, Young Jeezy, Cory Gunz, Black Uhuru’s Junior Reid and singer/songwriter Jake Troth. The re-release, which dropped today via Young Money Records/Republic Records, includes 13 of the original tracks, along with the bonus song “We Livin’ Like That.”

In preparation for their upcoming joint album, “Lost In Reality,” Mark Battles and Dizzy Wright grab the Fly America crew, Derek Luh and Euroz, for the appropriately titled “Cypher.” Oh yeah, let’s not forgot to mention that Cory Gunz, Chris Webby, and Emilio Rojas took part in the lyrical exercise as well, rounding out the total to seven incredibly talented MC’s on one record. Sure, we could ask who spit the best bars, but honestly, it’s all flame.

Truffle Butter (Remix) cover art

Around lunch time on Monday, Cory Gunz dropped off his remix to Nicki Minaj’s “Truffle Butter” (listen below), one of his fellow Young Money label-mate. As usual, Cory Gunz  runs laps around us with his unparalleled speed, lyricism and quick wit.

Aside from those infamous Cory Gunz punch-lines, what makes this song a little more interesting is the fact Gunz takes a second to touch on maybe the biggest mystery in the industry at the moment, “What is going on with Young Money lately?”. While very few probably know the real reason, Gunz let’s us know that Lil’ Wayne and Birdman are dealing with some stuff that the fans cannot understand—and maybe he’s right.

It’s also a bit surprising that Gunz was able to release anything considering the recent lock-down on pretty much every member of Young Money. Whether or not it’s the beginning of the end for the Young Money empire, Cory Gunz gave us some much-needed bars and announced a new project to come out “as soon as the chains are removed.”

Both aggravating and soothing the situation: it’s pretty clear that Street Heat TV clearly edited out many of Euro‘s mistakes. There are abrupt cuts in many of the moments he starts to stumble. While the intent–to have a more exciting video and spare Euro some of the flack he’d get from sites like this one–was noble, it dulls the spontaneity of freestyling (though it’s all, yes, written) and robs it of its danger as a gauntlet for aspiring MCs.

This rap duo from the Bronx is responsible for one of the biggest hip hop records in the 1990’s, “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby).” Originally, the two were known as The Gunrunners, but this was later changed to a combination of each of their stage names, Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz. Their only album, Make It Reign, came in 1998 through Columbia Records. The album featured popular artist such as Cam’ron, Big Pun, Fat Joe, Blackstreet, Jermaine Dupri, and Jagged Edge.

“Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” was the lead single off the album, scoring the group a number four spot on the Billboard Top 100 chart, a certified platinium plaque and three remixes including a Bad Boy remix with Puff Daddy, Mase, and The LOX. The track samples the intro of “Amores Como El Nuestro” by Jerry Rivera and the instrumental of “Black Cow” by Steely Dan. Following their debut album the group disbanded in 1999. Though never releasing another album, Peter Gunz’ music legacy is continued on through his son, Cory Gunz, a rapper currently signed to Young Money.
