Bom.K X Pakone X Wen2.

This week, we didn’t spot two murals that looked the same on the international street-art-sphere. The piece above is produced by Bom.K X Pakone and Wen2. Bom.K is back in Brest, France following his solo exhibition in Paris.

2501

2501 painted this mural in Los Angeles, USA. The Italian artist used his signature monochromatic lines combined with gold to create an abstract illusion of depth. This piece is on Imperial Street in Downtown LA.

Pez

Pez and his charming smiles arrived in Koln, Germany.

Vinz

VinZ recently completed this wall called “Allegoria della Primavera Valenciana” last week during “Poliniza” Urban Art Festival at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

Seth

Seth  recently completed this mural in Paris, France.

Hyuro

Hyuro  and her taste for multiplicity has dropped in Copenhagen, Denmark. In her poetic piece, Hyuro tells the story of a deer moving from light into obscurity and emerging, a changed deer on the other side of the light.

Phlegm

Phlegm, who is pretty much featured every week in our “Best of the week”, produced another memorable piece in London, UK.

Steve and Dorota Coy from Hygienic Dress League recently completed the mural above on the streets of Cleveland, Ohio.

Fintan Magee

Fintan Magee is back in Newtown where he just completed this new piece. The artist has a talent for depicting youthful Oras. He yet again successfully transports his viewer into a compelling childish universe.

Aryz is back with some new work in Copenhagen and is once again inviting us to see one of his large-scaled murals. The Spanish street artist is currently in Denmark for the  Galore Festival 2012,  an urban art festival. Even though he’s working with human subjects instead of his usual animals and skeletons you can still sense the same oddness and creepiness that defines Aryz’s work.

In early August, Shepard Fairey was in Copenhagen putting up murals all over the city (covered here and here) in preparation for his solo exhibit, Your Ad Here,  which opened in on August 5th. His works were full of peace symbols like doves, elephants and roses, but they were not received that way by the Copenhagen audience. Apparently, due to some local politics, the murals were interpreted as offensive. Fairey explained the situation like this:

The mural location in question had a controversial history of clash between the city and the supporters and inhabitants of the Youth House formerly located there. In spite of efforts by myself, my gallery, and the Youth House, to correct the record, media outlets continued to perpetuate the misconception that I had been hired or at least prompted by the city to create my mural at the former Youth House location.

Well, that misconception, as he puts it, got a bit carried away. The murals were defaced and riots were held by their side. Now, Fairey has released a statement on the event, defending his view of things. His words shed a lot of light on the situation in Copenhagen and Fairey’s view of street art as a method of expression. He even calls it “one of the most democratic, accessible, empowering, and inspiring art forms there is.” Read his full account here.

Earlier today we showed you a mural that Shepard Fairey just put up in Copenhagen (covered here). It seems that it was only the first of a series of murals the artist is painting all over the city. Here is wall #2, titled “M16 vs. AK47.”

With his show opening in just a few days, Shepard Fairey is putting up some last minute murals in Copenhagen. Here is the first of the walls, featuring OBEY‘s signature peace dove, a landmark stencil that Fairey has been putting on all his recent murals.
