New Music: OG Maco & Curtis Williams – “Holeman & Finch”

Besides his solo album, Children Of The Rage, OG Maco has a joint project coming out soon with Curtis Williams and producers Cookin’ Soul. Titled OG Danco, the rising Atlanta rappers deliver the first release off the project with “Holeman & Finch,” which is named after Maco’s favorite restaurant. The track gives listeners a good idea of what to expect on the forthcoming release as they ride the spanish producers’ signature soulful production and drop quality reminiscent rhymes (“I used to have Xanax ways, Hustling in the days”).

New Music: LE$ & Cookin’ Soul feat. Young Roddy – “Bout It”

Following up yesterday’s “Come Up” featuring label,head Curren$y, LE$ & Cookin‘ Soul, the high-flying duo comes with another two-word banger: “Bout It.” These guys are on a dope kind of cruise control: nothing about “Bout It” pushes any boundaries. From the mostly run-of-the-mill slick shit talk to the light-footed, weed-encrusted beat, nothing here will shock or change you, nor will it win any awards as far as lyricism or musicianship are concerned. What this duo is selling, on the other hand, (as we said yesterday) is a feeling. This music will put you in a good mood, in a way that is just beyond words. It’s like good weather.

A couple images come to mind listening to “Come Up.” The first: the very picture you see above, showing a couple friends riding through town on an ideal day, giving no shit about anything except that vague, hazy aspiration to run the world. The other: a crowd at a soon-to-happen LE$ & Cookin’ Soul show, bouncing with warm energy, “Come up, up, up!” The vibe is intimate but ambitious for the first single from the upcoming ACE, coming out on Curren$y‘s Jet Life label July 3rd. New Mixtape: CJ Fly (Pro-Era) “Thee Way Eye See It”

CJ Fly is officially the newest break-out emcee from the Pro-Era crew. The 20 year old rapper just dropped his first solo mixtape, Thee Way Eye See It, last Friday, and it is obvious that he means business. The debut project not only features production from hot producers like Carnage, Statik Selektah, and Esta, but it also has an impressive list of guest artists–most notably, Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest. How this 20 year old managed to get one of hip-hop’s greatest retired rappers to appear on his first mixtape is beyond us. However, after listening to track, its obvious why the two decided to collab. CJ Fly‘s first album is lyrically focused, while still maintaining a very smooth vibe, reminiscent of the old school New York swag pioneered by groups like ATCQ. We’re interested in seeing which songs from the new tape CJ is going to debut while he’s performing on the Smokers Club Tour this winter. So far, tracks like “The Heist”, “Too Paid”, and “Seek Well” have received the most praise from CJ‘s fan base.

New Music: Jet Life – “Welcome”

Last week the Jet Life crew took to the blogosphere to release the second cut off their collaborative album, Jet World Order 2. “Welcome” features an uptempo beat courtesy of Cookin’ Soul, but Trademark Da Skydiver and Young Roddy really set it off as they take turns delivering quality bars over some soulful production. Mr. Spitta is noticeably absent from this joint, but Roddy and Trademark do a thorough job of holding it down in the meantime. Video: Mac Miller & MC Melodee – “Genius” (prod. Cookin’ Soul)

Few noteworthy things here. One is that Cookin’ Soul, one of my personal favorite producing groups (they’re from Spain) are worth the listen. You must go out and research their projects and especially their remakes, you won’t be disappointed. And two is that this is my first time hearing of MC Melodee.
