With the aftermath of Colin Kaepernick taking a seat during the national anthem, the police department of Santa Clara might take action.  They declare that they are tempted to protest against the San Francisco 49er’s and not work for the organization during the game.  The reasoning for Colin Kaepernick not standing for the Star Spangled Banner is because of his beliefs in the United States of America.  He believes that this “great” nation is subject to a list of improper acts such as racism and police brutality.  As a result, Kaepernick did not want to salute a country that commits acts of injustice to his own people.  Kaepernick also wore a pair of socks resembling pigs as police.  

The Santa Clara police sent a letter to CSN bay area stating if they do not take action against him, it may result in police officers working somewhere else.  Even though the police department might take these acts as a threat, in actuality it is to start a political movement against police brutality.  Kaepernick stated, “There’s things we can do to hold them more accountable, make those standards higher,” Kaepernick said. “You have people that practice law and our lawyers and go to school for eight years, but you can become a cop in six months and don’t have to have the same amount of training as a cosmetologist.”  In this quote, he is breaking down one of the issues with the police department.  Amongst many others, he is attempting to make people aware of the issues of police injustice.  

I am in support of this movement that the quarterback is starting. The reasoning for this movement by itself is powerful. In addition, the fact that an athlete figure is starting it makes it that much more significant. The San Francisco 49er’s should not attempt to release Kaepernick for making a political statement.
