Has the ink dried yet on the deal that Jay-Z just signed with the NFL? Have you figured out how you feel about it? No matter what side of the argument you’re on, two things remain true: one thing is we have to wait and see if his “actionable” deal with the NFL truly benefits those in black and brown communities that suffer from injustice. The second is that Colin Kapernick doesn’t have a job. In my interview with Cris Carter in 2018, Cris ran down a list of QB’s he felt Kaepernick was better than (one of whom recently retired and another who has gone from being a former starter to a backup on a new team). Kaep’s off-the-field merits are above commendable: he has self-financed his Know Your Rights camps while being in what is now year three of his unemployment:

I spoke to quarterback guru Madei Williams and, paired that with my own football knowledge, composed a list of teams he could help right now. With the preseason well into its second week, I am going to attack this from a strictly football talent and depth chart standpoint. Kaep is above prototypical height and weight with proven stats to back him up. I’m also eliminating the excuse that age as an issue, with Tom Brady being able to play well into his 40’s, along with other older quarterbacks who have made a difference for their teams in the past (Kurt Warner, Randall Cunningham, Warren Moon, Brett Favre) just to name a few. This is by far the most QB friendly the NFL has ever been, and most offenses today are set up for the mobile QB to thrive. So, as you read my list, take all that into account.

Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz is the entrenched starter, but every year that he has played, his health as been an issue. With Nick Foles now in Jacksonville and Cody Kessler now hurt, this would be the perfect team and city to embrace Kaep as it once did with Micheal Vick.

Indianapolis Colts: Another entrenched starter insurance policy. Andrew Luck got beat up the first five years of his career because the Colts didn’t invest much into his O-line protection. In some ways they have improved — thanks to head coach Frank Reich. Regardless, the Colts are kind of suffering from football karma of sorts, with Luck being injured often. Reich would be able to adjust his offense to Kaep’s plying style as he understands the value of a good backup, having been one of the longest tenures backup behind JIm Kelly in Buffalo to partner with his many years of the offensive side of the ball and seeing what happened in Philly in their 2017 Superbowl run! it may be a good fit.

Miami Dolphins: Steven Ross politics aside, Keapernick would be an upgrade over any QB in the room. Josh Rosen is on his second team in a year after he was drafted high in the 2018 draft. Couple that with Kaep’s playoff and Super Bowl experience and you add more stability to the room than the Dolphins have had in years.

Arizona Cardinals: After watching Kyler Murray‘s preseason debut, it looks like it’s going to be a long season in Arizona. To go along with that, it looks like Murray may be taking a lot of hits. That being said, having a capable Kaep in the wings might be a wise choice given his experiences, and the fact that they wouldn’t have to make changes to the offense if Kyler Murray isn’t ready to go. Couple that with the fact that part of the reason Kliff Kingsbury was hired because he is an offensive guru and QB whisperer, this might be a good match.

Oakland Raiders: Derek Carr is in a ‘play and see’ type of year with the Raiders. As they try and see if Carr is truly their future, it wouldn’t hurt to have Kaep waiting in the wings if things go left. Mike Glennon did show some improvement this week, but Kaepernick is an easy upgrade over any backup on the team. Beyond that, I cant help but think that the marriage of the two brands would help the Raiders rebel image in the NFL.

Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins had a mixed bag of opinions before he inked that huge $84 million dollar deal. In his first year with the Vikings, he didn’t do much to live up to those expectations. Adding Kaep would make a lot of sense for a team that seems to be returning back to a strong running game with the return of Dalvin Cook and a good receiving corps.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Doug Marrone had to play musical chairs with his QB situation last year. Now that Nick Foles is the starter, the Jags have more stability. The truth is, we have been here before with Nick Foles when he played for the Rams before he returned to the Eagles. Having Kaep would be as strong backup option with the likes of Leonard Fournette behind him.

Strong runners up behind each of these teams are longer shots, but from a talent stand point: Keapernick could still help the Broncos, Titans, Bengals, Buccaneers, Panthers, 49ers and Texans.

Extra Credit: Any XFL team. Former University of Oklahoma and Steelers backup Landry Jones was the first player to sign with that league. Vince McMahon is a marketing genius and, even though he has already made it clear that all players would have to stand for for the anthem, Kaepernick would easily be better then any QB you could bring into the XFL, and I believe his addition would put eyeballs on their brand and butts in the seats to see how the embattled QB plays.

I started this post with saying that we have to wait and see what comes of this Roc Nation-NFL deal. One last truth that I would like to leave you with is this: if the NFL truly wants to move forward from Kaep, it has to move forward with Kaep. If they truly recognize why he was kneeling and see that he has the talent and skill set, then there is no real reason for him not to have a job.

Last NFL season, Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during the playing of the U.S. national anthem.

All indications point to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback acknowledging wrongdoings of African Americans and minorities like Eric Garner and Philando Castile, who were brutally murdered by police officers.

”I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL network’s Steve Wyche during the NFL’s preseason last year.

“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Kaepernick would later kneel instead of deciding to not participate during the playing of the U.S. national anthem before NFL games.

This has created a huge debate: Is it about the flag? Or is it about police brutality?

It depends on who you ask. “Why did he contribute to the fugitive in Cuba who is a police killer, who escaped,” legendary Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz asked me during this week’s episode of Scoop B Radio.

“That is the only contribution that I know he made.”

The contribution that Coach Holtz is referring to is a $25,000 donation Kaepernick made in April to Assata’s Daughter, a group named after a convicted cop killer and former Black Liberation Army member, Assata Shakur. This was part of the embattled quarterback’s $1million charitable pledge.

As per The Daily Mail’s, Keith Griffith, Shakur is the godmother to late rapper Tupac Shakur. She was convicted in the 1973 shooting death of a New Jersey state trooper. Shakur broke out of jail and fled to Cuba.

Coach Holtz holds a 249-132-7 coaching record most notably with Notre Dame. Holtz, 80, guided his Fighting Irish team to a College National Championship win in 1988. He remains 11th on the NCAA’s all-time win list for Division I-A coaches.

Holtz believes that old school values that he learned should apply to Kaepernick’s story. “Respect the town and respect for elders,” he said. “Respect for teachers, respect for coaches, and respect for the law. I have had unfair things done and I have gotten a ticket because I have been in Oklahoma and the coach thought we beat him. And the policeman gave me a ticket. And there wasn’t a god darn thing I could do about it. You know what? Life isn’t always fair.”

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-176011" data-attachment-id="176011" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2017/11/lou-holtz-says-colin-kaepernick-shouldnt-have-taken-knee-compares-its-human-interest-to-o-j-simpson/oj-simpson/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/OJ-Simpson.jpg?fit=992%2C744&ssl=1" data-orig-size="992,744" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="OJ Simpson" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="<p>Johnnie Cochran puts his arm on O.J. Simpsons shoulder. Photo Credit: ABC News

Holtz broke it down further by comparing it to a criminal case that changed the way the world’s perspective on a lot: the O.J. Simpson verdict. “I don’t believe by any stretch of the imagination that O.J. Simpson didn’t murder the people,” he said.

“However, a judge and jury of his peers found him innocent. I don’t agree with that, but you know what? That’s the judgement! So I have to accept that. This is what our country is about. It’s not always about fair.”

A year later, Kaepernick’s refusal has triggered other athletes like the Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, the Houston Rockets’ Chris Paul and Oklahoma City Thunder forward, Carmelo Anthony to become vocal about police brutality of minorities. NFL players have also taken cues throughout the season with players like Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sitting on a Gatorade cooler while the national anthem was played. “So many times we hear about police brutality and that it is wrong and if it is wrong they should be punished and they should be penalized and we should not overlook it,” said Holtz.

“But it is not up to us to take it into our hands and start murdering police because we don’t like what they do or anything else. Let us go believe in the system and make any changes that we need to make.”

Kaepernick, led the San Francisco 49ers to an appearance in Super Bowl XLVII and was in a contract year when he took the public stance. Now an NFL free agent, it seems that nobody is willing to take a chance on him, even a backup QB in the NFL.

Kaepernick wasn’t the only topic that Holtz chatted about on Scoop B Radio while making an appearance to promote his Lou’s Lads foundation which includes a trip to Ireland via Executive Global Tours.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-176015" data-attachment-id="176015" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2017/11/lou-holtz-says-colin-kaepernick-shouldnt-have-taken-knee-compares-its-human-interest-to-o-j-simpson/lou-holtz/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Lou-Holtz.jpg?fit=600%2C400&ssl=1" data-orig-size="600,400" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Lou Holtz" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="<p>Lou Holtz during his coaching days at Notre Dame.
Coach Lou also discussed current NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. He believes that the commissioner needs more organization on the issue of players kneeling. Holtz is not a fan of NFL Players taking a knee and has been outspoken about it. He says that players should go to inner city neighborhoods and be influential in their community, rather than kneeling. “We have 32 NFL teams in major cities,” he said.

“Why can’t we organize the players from those teams as well as from the NBA and Major League Baseball. Let’s go into the cities and teach our young children how to make good choices and how important it is to get an education. Whatever happens, we teach them to make good choices.”

Added Holtz:

“Let me give you an example last year I had some wonderful things happen to me as a former coach of Notre Dame. I had two players who played for me, admitted into the NFL Hall of Fame that is pretty good. They are proud and tremendous that is three players that played for me, last year that are in the Notre Dame Coaching staff. I have two players last year that were added to the board of trustees at Notre Dame, that is no small feat. All those athletes are afro-american and have all accomplished great things. I am not taking credit for it they all came from different backgrounds. They all had every reason to be bitter and be upset but what their parents and I like to think we contributed was: let’s make good choices with your life and what you do. If we can teach people to make better choices, we would have a much better world and a more equal world.”

It’s that time of the year again! GQ announced Colin Kaepernick as the Citizen of the Year.

“Much has changed in the four years since Colin Kaepernick was last on the cover of GQ. Back then he was a rippling superhero of a quarterback on the rise,” the magazine wrote.

What a time to be alive to see a high fashion men’s magazine acknowledge Colin regardless (or because) of the year he has been having. Colin was let go from the 49ers this year and yet no team has signed him! Colin is a modern day activist with his devotion to the Black Lives Matter movement, the Know Your Rights Campaign, and his donation to multiple charities to help inner city children.

Kaepernick was the first athlete to kneel during the National Anthem in 2016; his protest was in silence for the injustice and police brutality in America. Since Colin kneeled for the first time, he started a movement within the athletes in different sports organizations to protest and speak out in their own way. Congrats Colin and making a change and for the being nominated as CITIZEN OF THE YEAR!

What team will Colin Kaepernick go to this season?

Last NFL season, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand during the playing of the U.S. national anthem to acknowledge wrongdoings of African Americans and minorities like Eric Garner, Philando Castile who have been brutally murdered by police officers.

News today out of Indianapolis is that Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will not play in week one NFL action. Luck is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and is currently on the physically unable to perform list. Scott Tolzien, the Colts’ No. 2 quarterback listed on the depth chart will get the nod.

Worth noting: Tolzien, a former undrafted free agent has made only three career starts in five years in the NFL.

Colin Kaepernick is available.

Kaepernick has had an interesting summer since becoming an NFL free agent.

Last NFL season, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand during the playing of the U.S. national anthem to acknowledge wrongdoings of African Americans and minorities like Eric Garner, Philando Castile who have been brutally murdered by police officers.”I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL network’s Steve Wyche during the NFL’s preseason last year.

“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Kaepernick would later kneel instead of not participating at all while the national anthem was played during NFL games.

The Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins are said to have had interest, but they’ve since moved on.News over the weekend indicated that the Jacksonville Jaguars took a look at Kaepernick during the offseason.

According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, the Jaguars were not heavily interested. “We did the study, the research, and we weren’t interested,” Jaguars executive VP of football operations, Tom Coughlin said of Kaepernick.

Kaepernick led the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII and NFL. It seems that NFL GMs are simply not looking for the media scrutiny and constant attention.

So will Colin Kaepernick play this season?

Craig Hodges, a 2-time NBA Champion with the Chicago Bulls told me earlier this summer that if Kaepernick doesn’t make it into somebody’s training camp, Kaepernick won’t play again.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-170441" data-attachment-id="170441" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2017/09/craig-hodges-colin-kaepernick-dont-think-will-play-nfl-sight-mind/craig-hodges-scoop-b/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Craig-Hodges-Scoop-B.jpg?fit=1050%2C590&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1050,590" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Craig Hodges Scoop B" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="<p>Former NBA player Craig Hodges guarded by NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas. Hodges appeared on Scoop B Radio and talked Colin Kaepernick. Photo Credit: VICE Sports

Hodges if you recall, was blackballed by the NBA after he handed a letter to former U.S. President George H.W. Bush during the Bulls’ championship visit to the White House. The contents of the letter, according to Hodges made President Bush aware of the mistreatment of poor people and people of color in the United States.

“I don’t think he will play again in the NFL because out of sight out of mind, Craig Hodges told me on Scoop B Radio.

“In the sport, unlike basketball where you might be able to sit out twelve months and still be able to come back and play, but the question becomes in that twelve months: “Is anybody even going to mess with you anymore?” Because they already said you are obsolete because you have been twelve months away from the game.”

So if Colin Kaepernick were to be picked up by an NFL team, would he kneel during the national anthem again? “I’m pretty sure Colin Kaepernick isn’t going to take a knee anymore,” said Hodges.

“There isn’t a need to take a knee anymore. I think now it’s just a matter of him wanting to play football. If he gets a chance to play football he is going to play football and do what he is capable of doing. Hopefully he gets that opportunity.”

It doesn’t matter if you’re walking into a grocery store, Jewish synagogue, local gym, Muslim mosque, Baptist church, or flipping your television from ESPN’s First Take to Fox Sports 1’s Undisputed to catch NBA free agency, the same question is repeated over and over again: Will Colin Kaepernick play in the NFL this season?

For those tardy to the party, Last NFL season, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand during the playing of the U.S. national anthem to acknowledge wrongdoings of African Americans and minorities like Eric Garner, Philando Castile who have been brutally murdered by police officers.”I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL network’s Steve Wyche during the NFL’s preseason last year.

“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Kaepernick would later kneel instead of not participating at all while the national anthem was played during NFL games.

Kaepernick’s refusal triggered other athletes like the Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James, Houston Rockets’ Chris Paul, New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and Chicago Bulls’ Dwyane Wade and WNBA players to become vocal about police brutality of minorities.

Kaepernick, who led the San Francisco 49ers to an appearance in Super Bowl XLVII, was in a contract year when took that public stance last season. Now an NFL free agent, it seems that nobody is willing to take a chance on him as even a backup in the NFL. The Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins are said to have had interest, but they’ve since moved on.

So will Colin Kaepernick play this season? Craig Hodges, a 2-time NBA Champion with the Chicago Bulls says it’s iffy. “He might get an opportunity, but if he is not in somebody’s training camp I don’t think he will play again in the NFL because out of sight out of mind, Hodges told me on Scoop B Radio.

“And in the sport, unlike basketball where you might be able to sit out twelve months and still be able to come back and play, but the question becomes in that twelve months: “Is anybody even going to mess with you anymore?” Because they already said you are obsolete because you have been twelve months away from the game.”

“I did whatever I could to uplift the cause of our people man,” he said.

“And one night, we had the chance to go the White House right after we won our first championship. I had been writing letters to our congress people and to our senators to the mayor when I was a little boy and all the way through high school and it was just a continuous of that and a continuous knowing that I part of the fabric and the fiber of human rights and people standing up for human rights.”

Former Denver Nuggets guard, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was nationally villafied after he refused to acknowledge the U.S. flag. Abdul-Rauf, who converting to Islam, refused to acknowledge the flag in protest. He would not rise while the U.S. national anthem was played and as a result, ABC’s 20/20 and other television shows and networks drew national attention to Abdul Rauf’s public stance. As a result, Abdul-Rauf was suspended by the NBA and when he returned, he, the NBA and the Nuggets reached an agreement that he’d pray while the national anthem was played before games.

While Kaepernick is without a job in the NFL, Hodges believes that Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf had it worse off than he or Kaepernick. Hodges indicated on Scoop B Radio that he told Abdul-Rauf as such when the two he met in Chicago while Abdul-Rauf was playing in Ice Cube’s Big 3 Basketball tournament. “Colin Kaepernick has gotten to get a portion of what he is suppose to get salary wise,” said Hodges.

“Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was cut off from possibly being the greatest scorer in NBA history, that is the part that hurt me about him.”

Abdul-Rauf was ultra talented. The fiery guard out of LSU who went by the name Chris Jackson before his conversion to Islam was nasty! His scoring ability was unmatched and his jumper was deadly.

In his rookie season in the NBA he averaged 14 points per game and averaged a shade over three assists per game during the 1990-91 NBA season. Abdul-Rauf’s best year in the league was the 1992-93 NBA season. He’d average a smidge under 20 points and 4 assists per contest. He was lightning quick and his first step in his prime could genuinely compare with the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson Discusses Colin Kaepernick on Another Thing with Larry Medte and Fox News Political Expert Lt. Steven Rogers

On Abdul-Rauf, Craig Hodges added:

“I’m saying he is Islam and he understands all of that, but that is power for why that all went on. But at the same time, his potential in the game was so much farther than myself and I say even Colin for where he is in his career right now. But as far as what he was able to do for the game, I feel like Mahmoud felt it more than anybody.”

Shifting back to the gridiron, the ongoing saga Kaepernick saga is reminiscent of Michael Vick’s return to football after his conviction of running a dogfighting business in his home. The only difference is that Kaepernick has not broken any laws.

So here’s the million and seven dollar question: If Colin Kaepernick were to be picked up by an NFL team, would he kneel during the national anthem again?

“See once again, I’m pretty sure Colin Kaepernick isn’t going to take a knee anymore,” said Hodges.

“There isn’t a need to take a knee anymore. I think now it’s just a matter of him wanting to play football. If he gets a chance to play football he is going to play football and do what he is capable of doing. Hopefully he gets that opportunity.”

Speaking of Michael Vick. In the past month, both he and Ray Lewis were vocal about Kaepernick’s decision and how the free agent could re-enter the program. Essentially, they both felt that he should either cut his hair or keep his political views to himself. “Often times we can be pressured into making comments on behalf of the larger enforcer,” said Hodges.

“That’s where we have to ask ourselves: if there really is a God in these situations whose side is he on? You know what I am saying? Then when brother’s make the decisions to say like: ‘Michael Vick, how stupid is that?’ So you are telling me that his hair as something to do with throwing the football? This man’s words are throwing footballs, Ray Lewis? So tone down your civil rights. So you’re telling me allow people to be murdered and maimed and it’s cool as long as I play football? Hell no man! How much more of a 2017 slave mentality is that? Let’s cut to the chase we have some slave garbage.”

Speaking of hair, r&b singer India Arie did explain to you in her song that she was not her hair!

Taking a cursory look at the NFL, there are others who have defining hair: the Houston Texans’ Brian Cushing has sported an array of styles, as have former Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu. Hodges deducts that corporate America is afraid of athletes like Kaepernick being unapologetically black. “Absolutely,” he said.

“Because when that happens you have no fear. Fear then is the key to the power structure. Scare the hell out of people and they aren’t going to move. So many of our movements have been penalized just because of the inaction and fear.”

Michael Vick is ruffling feathers over his latest comment towards fellow NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

On Monday (Jul 17), during an interview on the sports show “Speak for Yourself,” Vick was asked his opinion on what he felt former San Francisco ’49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick should do in regards to getting signed by a team. Vick’s response, “cut his afro.”

“First thing we need to get Colin to do is to cut his hair, I mean I am not being politically correct, but the cornrows nah. I mean he really needs to be more clean cut, I mean I get the social media and what he’s trying to do-we get it but now it’s time to clean up his image.”

In the on air interview, Vick says that his advice comes being a reformed “bad boy,” but insists that his advice is to help Kaepernick win in the NFL.

“Colin is a great kid and I am just going off of my experience because when I wore the gold chains and cornrows I was viewed as this bad boy but the hairstyles and stuff didn’t represent me.”

Since the interview aired, Kaepernick has taken to Instagram to respond to Vick, with a post giving the definition of “Stockholm’s Syndrome.”

Fans of both Vick and Kaepernick have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment in Vick’s comments towards Kaepernick pointing out that his clean cut line isn’t helping white fans of the NFL forget his conviction.
