										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="s11"><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">‏Toronto-based Hip Hop artist<strong> City</strong> whose </span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">upbringing is brought center stage in his music. Overcoming an environment and </span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">neighborhood with a past</span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15"> plagued by socio-political failures of the system, City’s music is </span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">bleak and ominous. It encompasses themes of the grind and the struggle of both his family and his peers, and leans into what it truly means to be street conscious in 2020 and beyond. He recently released his visual “<strong>100</strong>” to a paint a picture.</span></span></p>
<p class="s11"><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">Sonically, his beats are equally as dark, cinematically provocative wi</span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">th its fair share of moody atmospherics</span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">, </span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">tough grooves</span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15"> and wittiness</span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">. While he is intent on carving out his own sound, his music echoes influences from artists that have inspired him along the way &#8212; <strong>Fabolous</strong>, <strong>Vybez Kartel</strong>, <strong>Drake</strong> and <strong>50 Cent’s G-Unit</strong>.</span></span></p>
<p class="s11"><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">City’s foray </span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">into music began as early as 15. He’s always been fascinated with music and draws influence from both his upbringing in school home and church. The fire in his belly to create stems from unjust altercations with the police as a kid, and he channels that re</span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">lease through music. Above all, </span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">he is</span></span> <span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15">driven</span></span><span class="s4"><span class="bumpedFont15"> to achieve his goals.</span></span></p>

<p>Somebody might have jumped the gun. According to the <a href="http://video.adultswim.com/music/singles-2013/"><strong>Adult Swim</strong> website</a>, <strong>Freddie Gibbs</strong> and<strong> Madlib</strong>&#8216;s song &#8220;City&#8221; wasn&#8217;t supposed to drop until July 22nd, but alas, here it is. Characterized by that hazy <strong>Madlib</strong> sound, &#8220;City&#8221; features frantic verses from <strong>Karriem Riggins</strong> and <strong>Freddie Gibbs</strong> over<strong> </strong>an instrumental that belongs in a Hannah-Barbara cartoon.</p>
<p><strong>Gibbs</strong> and <strong>Madlib</strong> are supposed to released their collaborative effort <em><strong>Pinata</strong></em><strong> </strong>later this year. It&#8217;s an unexpected pairing, but if &#8220;City,&#8221; is a reliable indicator or their chemistry, the project should be fantastic. Furthermore, according to <strong>Potholes in My Blog</strong>, the collaborations for the album <a href="http://potholesinmyblog.com/freddie-gibbs-and-madlibs-collaborative-album-has-a-crazy-guest-lineup/">are insane</a>.
