Fresh off a visit to the SXSW festival, Black Hippy member Jay Rock decided to drop his own single, “Checkmate,” earlier today with some help from The Futuristiks on production. Let’s not get it twisted, this joint bangs hard. It’s always good to hear new music, but it’s especially true in this case. There hasn’t been too much noise coming from the LA-bred emcee since his debut project, Follow Me Home, last summer, but let’s take what we can get. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come, but for now be sure to check out the track below.
