]]> the source cypher yc the cynicShouts to The Source for organizing such a solid lineup of New York talent. We’ve always got love for YC The Cynic, Danse, Dymez, and Black Dave here at RESPECT. The only real flaw in this cypher was the sequencing. It could have started with the gritty, sloppy Ceazar, followed by Danse, who channeled Styles P and DMX with a rugged and knowing verse, with the slippery rude Dyme-A-Duzin (“You were better off tweetin’, my nigga”) and the choppy and direct Black Dave falling in line to lead up to the anchor, The Cynic. The lanky scientist from the Bronx was in a different league sport on this one. “Fans threaten to break down the doors, break out the guards / they grew accustomed to digging my cuts, break out the gauze. / The team leader that’s unorthodox like the four corners / you on all fours in the fourth quarter / and calling for sweet Jesus.” You can’t slot a dude with one of the most original and show-stopping flows in the game–not to mention the fact that his content hold heaps of meaning–as the opener. It’s just unfair. Still, though, stick around for Danse and Dymez. If this were any other cypher, they would’ve been champs.
