I remember watching my favorite NFL team making a playoff run earlier this year and wanting to punch a wall when I found out that one of its key players on defense had been suspended because of marijuana use. (Retired NBA player) Matt Barnes, (retired NFL player) Arian Foster…the list could go on in regards to former professional athletes who have admitted to using marijuana during their playing tenure in their respective leagues.

More then most players who admit to using it say they do for medicinal purposes. Whether it’s to keep calm or to help fight soreness from rigorous training, we live in a country where legalization has hit an all-time high (no pun intended), so how can the gap between the use of medical marijuana and sports be changed?

cbdMD President Caryn Dunayer helped to put the deal together by facilitating things on the marketing end to create a partnership between cbdMD and the BIG3 professional basketball league. The BIG3 is the first professional sports league to partner with a CBD brand and allow their players to use CBD on a season-long basis. Not only is it a great deal from a marketing perspective for cbdMD, but it’s a great way to show the positives of CBD use as the players get to use their products.

I spoke to Dillon Kivo, Director of PR, in regards to player reactions about the use of the CBD products, and here is what he had to say:

“I can’t call it a cure-all… but I can say that the reactions from the players have been nothing but positive and the results speak for themselves.”

It is yet to be seen whether other professional sports leagues have taken notice of what the BIG3 is doing, but it is a great start!
