It’s another one in the history books for D.C.’s Broccoli City Festival, an event that has continued to make a steady climb from its smaller origins seven years ago to become one of the city’s biggest music and culture experiences today. Below are some of the biggest highlights from FedEx Field (the first time here for BCFest):

• One person that received his much-deserved flowers is Nipsey Hussle, who performed at BCFest last year. artists like Teyana Taylor and Lil Wayne accompanied the festival’s organizers with each paying a tribute to the fallen emcee and community activist.
• Being in D.C., it only made sense for hometown stars to get some love as well. Go-Go band New Impressionz joined Hip-Hop acts Adé and YBN Cordae as headliners — the latter of whom also brought out Q Da Fool and WillThaRapper for even more DMV action. Kelow LaTesha also joined the growing female-based movement Girlaaa (led by rising DJ Domo) on stage as well.
• As she’s been doing since JT‘s incarceration last year, Yung Miami held down the City Girls name with a slew of big anthems — including the Cardi B-assisted “Twerk” and “Where The Bag At.” Following that, Gunna and Lil Baby kept the party going, both with their individual sets and as one of Atlanta’s hottest groups (just check out “Drip Too Hard,” which was definitely the biggest takeaway from their performances).

• Ella Mai had a solid set, yet seemed to have been cut off at one point, perhaps due to sound troubles. Later on, Lil Wayne showed up fashionably late and gave a live rendering of hits that could’ve probably continued for hours on end (although it seemed like the younger crowd were getting restless, signaling both my own “old” age and the realization that Weezy’s truly one of the old guard veterans in the game now).
• Childish Gambino/Donald Glover is just different. The man kicked off his performance by walking to the front of the stage before a contraption raised him several feet in the air, all the while staying silent while operatic music (“Atavista”) played through the speakers. He then proceeded to perform essentially the same set lucky festivalgoers witnessed at Coachella (and during his past tour), barreling through newer cuts like “Feels Like Summer” and “This Is America” while reaching back to fan favorites from Awaken, My Love! and Because The Internet. All-in-all, this was definitely the right act to close out the festival with, as many who were pretty much tired at that point (like myself) found themselves dancing along with the fast-moving, animated Glover until his close-out.

Every year we are hype for this one specific festival called Broccoli city. The festival, which was launched in Spring 2013, has gathered over 35000 people in the spirit of Earth Day and has consistently made history in the nation’s capital.

It seems like it has been forever since the Washington, D.C. festival announced their unbelievable line up. On Saturday, April 28^th at the RFK stadium, major figures in the hip-hop game like Migos, Miguel, Cardi B, and more are set to perform on the big stage and really put on a show no music fan would want to miss. Due to our intense excitement for the big show we decided to share 10 things we’re really looking forward to. Check It out below!

1. The main stage and the Toyota DJ stage.

It is all about the music Saturday. When the gate opens at 12 there will be two different stages with two different musical experiences. On the 23^rd the festival shared the set time plan and we have it for you below. Check it out and plan accordingly!

2. Seeing the mysterious H.E.R. perform music from her debut album.

We can’t see her face but we will be able to hear her voice smoothly flow throughout the entire stadium. We are big fans of H.E.R. and enjoy her soulful records like “Losing,” “Avenue,” and “Wait for it.” Her debut album was released in October 2017 and it is an overall classic. We can’t wait to see her perform it.

3. Shouting “splish!” when Miguel performs his breezy smash “Sky Walker.”

“Sky Walker” is still one of our favorite songs. Every listen it gets better and better and we know for a fact the crowd is going to go crazy when Miguel performs the infectious record.

4. A pregnant Cardi B dancing to her bangers from Invasion Of Privacy.

Did ya’ll see that Coachella performance? Sheesh! Cardi we need you to bring that same energy to the BC stage. We love her album Invasion of Privacy and we can’t wait to turn up with her.

5. Hearing the soulful sounds from Daniel Caesar live!

Daniel Caesar has one of the purest and soulful vocals gracing music right now. The Canadian artist dropped a stunning album called Freudian and we can’t wait to hear his voice live.

6. Hitting the New Freezer challenge in unison when Rich The Kid performs.

Rich The Kid just dropped his debut album The World Is Yours and it features his hit single “New Freezer.” Out of nowhere the song gained even more attention when fans decided to make a fun yet simple challenge to it. Take a look below!

7. Being in the presence of Nipsey Hussle!

This Los Angeles, California rapper is an overall hustler and recently dropped his major-label debut Victory Lap which we still have in heavy rotation today. He was also on our digital cover where we crowned him as “The Marathon Man.”

8. Seeing D.C.s very own Lightshow perform in front of his hometown.

Southeast Washington D.C. rapper Lightshow has been on a heavy grind for a few years now. It is major that he gets to perform at a big festival like Broccoli city. Better yet, in his hometown.

9. Seeing Hood Celebrityy heat up the stage.

Hood Celebrityy has created a new genre and her name is rising quickly in this music game. She is on the record label KSR group which is also associated with rap sensation Cardi B.

10. Attending the official BC Fest after party.

Then after the show, it’s the after party. Folks will be hitting the D.C. streets for some fun after a long day of jammin’ out. Powered by Jameson Whiskey, BC Fest will have an official after party and we are excited to attend.

Watch the majority of Broccoli City Fest in under one minute. Broccoli City is becoming a staple musical experience in D.C., and this year’s lineup of BJ The Chicago Kid, Anderson .Paak, Jhene Aiko, and Future, (two of whom aren’t shown because of the untimely removal of all press from the photo pit, sorry, I digress) the organically-friendly, cleaner lifestyle-centric celebration of music, brands, food, and ultimately people, grows exponentially year to year. Two stages, food trucks, pop-up thrift shops, live art, (one of which was a tribute mural of Prince that was beautifully done on location) and seemingly an amalgam of activities are all elements of what make BC great. Broccoli City is a much an eye-opening social gathering of like minded, individually passionate people as it is a music fest. An exciting landscape that affords people the outlet to let loose, all while bringing attention to small business, up and coming creatives, and the promotion of a more pure lifestyle. All while bringing awareness to food insecurity across the country. While the video only captures performances from BJ The Chicago Kid and Anderson .Paak, (two of the more talented crooners and entertainers alike, and like I previously mentioned, we were moved from the photo pit) the true experience seemed to be in the collective group and tangible surroundings; a vast market of innovation, creativity, and positivity rolled into one. Guests like Sway Calloway, Elliot Wilson, and others brought fan fare to the event, demonstrating it’s ever-evolving presence as a major production year after year. Each time around the festival seems to eclipse it’s numbers from the previous times. As the lineup’s get stronger and stronger, Broccoli City Fest is a solace for personal interaction, a warming vibe, and some of the best music in existence. Festival lineups might be dropping left and right, but they’re only getting better and better!

Today, the good people at Broccoli City took to Twitter to announce the lineup for its 4^th annual festival which will feature Future and Jhene Aiko as headliners! The Internet, Anderson Paak, Sango, and other upcoming artists will be performing at spring festival.

Known for its great vibe, bringing beautiful people together, and offering healthy food options to the community, Broccoli City Festival  will be returning to the Gateway DC Pavillion on April 30th.

Tickets for Broccoli City Fest start at $59 and will go on sale this Friday! The festival is even offering free tickets for those who chose to volunteer in the Power of One campaign. Checkout the entire lineup below:

With less than three weeks away until Broccoli City’s Earth Day festival, they team up with Goldlink’s DJ Kidd Marvel for “The BC Fest Mix.” The soundtrack to Broccoli City Festival features great mixes with the goddess Erykah Badu, Jaden Smith and more. Kidd doesn’t just include today’s music, he also includes throwback hits -with a smooth touch to it. Definitely a great mix to listen to, and get your mind right before the festivities.
