Retired Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant inspired a generation; especially in hip hop. Meet Tauzha. Previously featured in my Scoop B column in RESPECT Magazine and lauded for creating her own lane, Tauzha’s style blends unique vocals and thoughtful lyrics with a confident attitude and personality that represents the true sentiment of Chicago.

New to the game but not music, Tauzha has been performing and making music since she was young.

“5 Rings” Volume 1 is the follow up to her debut mixtape “Capone” which received great reviews with features in Hip Hop Weekly, Source Magazine and more.

Simply put: her new video  for“5 Rings” is inspired by Kobe Bryant and winning in every aspect. Directed Gravitii Films, Tauzha displays the story-line of rags to riches from grinding to shining with major appearances by Chicago artist Rico Recklezz, Chella H and The Boy Illinois.

With her 12-song mixtape released on July 11th and after an amazing performance opening for Waka Flocka on a sold out show, Tauzha is truly proving her unique flow to be superior. In a standing room only panel, Chicago based, Swank PR’s  “The PR Trifecta” Artist, Business & Branding Partnerships in PR workshop was a hit on Friday April 21. Housed under the umbrella of the Google sponsored Lake FX Conference, the largest mid-west free conference for emerging artists and creators,executives, business execs and public relations experts were all in attendance at the Chicago Cultural Center’s 5th floor in their spacious Millenium Room.

Panelists discussed branding, their passion for the business of entertainment and music and success stories of how their clients made it.

Simply put: no brand can exist without the artist and the artist can’t be branded without great representation.

I moderated the panel which included Marc Glanville of Mosaic, Lyrical of Lyrical Eyes Management, Briahna Gatlin of Swank PR and Burrell Communication’s Dave Jackson and Tracy Anderson.

The PR Trifecta panel addressed the multi layers of cross branding artists and brands through public relations and building partnerships.

Kevin Liles, co-founder of 300 Entertainment and CEO of KWL Management, closed out the conference with his discussion and keynote address

“What I loved about the panel was the wealth of insight on branding that so many people had no idea about,” SWANK PR’s Briahna Gatlin told RESPECT Magazine by phone. “In this digital age we need to look into the idea of making partnerships and brands apart of the formula for success.”

Meet Briahna Gatlin, a Chicago, IL’s representer. Founder and CEO of Swank PR, a boutique PR agency that has been in inception since 2006, Gatlin is the go to for much in the Chi. 

A recipient of the 2013 Music Publicist of the Year from Chicago’s notable Mary Datcher/Global Mixx, Gatlin’s Swank PR firm has represented pretty big names like, G.O.O.D Music, Jay-Z, LeBron James, Hennessy Black, Lupe Fiasco, Raekwon, Mos Def, Chrisette Michele, Sway Calloway, New Era Cap Brand, Complex Magazine and Grey Goose.

What makes her journey into the business of public relations unique is that she began her career as an aspiring writer. “I started out as a journalist in college,” Gatlin told me by phone. “But I thought it would be pretty cool to merge my passion for music.”
