We’ve all heard of drop boxes to drop our bills, return a movie and etc. In some places you can even call your grocery list in to your favorite grocery store and they will not only do the shopping for you but bring it out to your car as well. With so many convenient things made available for people to use, Indiana’s drop box for baby is making it convenient for mothers. The drop-box or the Woodburn baby box as it’s called was first installed on April 19th. Safe Haven Baby survivor Monica Kelsey, Pro-life speaker and writer, firefighter/medic for the state of Indianan is an advocate whom helped push the idea forward to Indiana State’s Representative Casey Cox whom also began advocating for the project. Kelsey’s passion to have a drop box for babies came when she was abandoned by her own mother and left in a safe haven.

Every government office from the Department of Social Services to the Health Department, Fire Stations and Hospitals – have a safe haven sticker located on the outside of it’s establishment, making it accessible to a mother whom may want to give up her child, while this is a great initiative; it also exposes the identity of a mother whom may not want to be identified and/or criticized for giving up her bundle of Joy. The safe haven boxes however provides anonymity to this fact, leaving the mother unidentifiable as she wishes to remain. As with everything, these boxes do cost a pretty penny – According to nbcnews prices range from around $1500-$2000 a box; Indiana’s Knights of Columbus Organization picked up the bill offering to pay for the first 100 baby drop box installations.

Monica Kelsey’s hope is that the boxes would save any baby that a mother is contemplating about abandoning.

If you know someone that may be thinking about giving up a child, please lead them to www.SafeHavenLaw.com or call your local government agencies whom will be able to help them.
