The Lion King (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

As you probably know, the super-updated version of the classic film The Lion King is set to hit theaters next Friday Thursday (July 18th). Today, fans get to check out the official soundtrack, features some sangin’ actors and a score courtesy of Hans Zimmer. Included in the 19-track offering: an original cut by Beyoncé titled “Spirit,” and re-imaginings of childhood favorites like “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” (random but necessary shout-out to Elton John).

Big K.R.I.T. – K.R.I.T. IZ HERE

I can’t believe that it’s been almost a decade since the release of the groundbreaking K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. This weekend, Big K.R.I.T. decided to provide a proper sequel (?) for that project titled K.R.I.T. IZ HERE — a 19-track body of work that also sees additional appearances from J. Cole, Yella Beezy, Lil Wayne, Saweetie, Rico Love and more. Check it out below.

Blood Orange – Angel’s Pulse

This weekend, Dev Hynes somewhat surprises his fans with a follow-up to the still-rotating Negro Swan. Check out Angel’s Pulse, a 14-track offering with additional appearances from Toro y Moi, Project Pat, Gangsta Boo, Tinashe, Justine Skye and more. He explains:

“My new record is called ‘Angel’s Pulse’ and I performed, produced and mixed the entire thing myself… I’m calling it a mixtape. I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time.. I decided to release it… I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them. I’m older now though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying… so here you go mates.”

Ed Sheeran – No.6 Collaborations Project

Master P – I Got The Hook Up 2 Vol. 1

Master P is back. The man who gave us turn-of-the-century classics like Da Last Don, I’m Bout It and, well…all of No Limit’s classic musical catalog is back with an official sequel for the timeless hood flick I Got the Hook-Up, and fans get to enjoy the soundtrack before its release (UPDATE: The film’s out now). The accompanying compilation sees a slew of dope features: Jeezy, Calboy, E-40, YFN Lucci, DC Young Fly, Fat Boy SSE, Romeo Miller, Silkk The Shocker and more make appearances on the project. If you missed it, Blood Orange‘s Negro Swan — released a couple of months ago — is a necessary additional to your music collection. Case in point: the above visual for album standout “Chewing Gum,” which sees Dev Hynes and A$AP Rocky riding bikes in a desert while sporting two of the most illustrious du-rags known to man. Shouts to Project Pat, who’s also featured on the airy single.

Still vibing to 2016’s Freetown Sound, I was very excited to see that Dev Hynes has a brand new Blood Orange album for the masses to enjoy. Titled Negro Swan, the 16-track project sees additional releases from A$AP Rocky, Puff Daddy, Project Pat, Steve Lacy, Georgia Anne Muldrow and more. He described the album to HYPEBEAST:

“My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color… A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of hope, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”

Tinashe is on fire! After releasing new single “Bet” feat. Devonté Hynes of Blood Orange, Tinashe released the music video for her latest collaboration with A$AP Rocky – “Pretend.” Her first full-length album, Aquarius, is slated for release on October 7th from RCA Records.

The video has a vague schoolboy/schoolgirl vibe, opening to Tinashe working at a desk in a library, and her fictional boo coming up behind her. The video follows her relationship with this guy, interspersed with shots of A$AP throwing money at girls dancing in a smoky club and sweeping overhead shots of mountains and misty forests. Cute shots follow of Tinashe and her man in school, flirting and doing couple-y stuff, while Tinashe throws A$AP some sultry eye action at the other end of the hallway.

About halfway through the video, A$AP catches Tinashe’s guy receiving a lap dance in the club. He confronts him in typical valiant dope boy swag fashion, and proceeds the threaten the two-timer making a gun with his fingers. Throughout the video, Tinashe croons: “Let’s pretend it’s my first time / So you can really blow my mind / Let’s pretend we never met / A good excuse to play forget / Let’s pretend you never lied / So I can give it up all night.”

Towards the end of the video, Tinashe’s man enters a dark warehouse and is jumped by guys in black hoodies. The video ends as Tinashe, walking away from the wear house wearing all black, enters a fully-blacked out Lincoln town car.

Overall the video is absolutely sexy, the chemistry between Tinashe and A$AP palpable. Not to mention, it’s a pretty heartwarming moment when the Harlem Dope Boy stands up to defend the “2 On” singer’s honor. The best part of the whole video comes after the mysterious beau runs games on Tinashe, and the camera cuts to her on top of a mountain belting out her lamenting ballad in the snow.
