We’ve heard it before. From Kendrick Lamar‘s “Alright” to Salomon Faye‘s “Black Power,” songs responding to social injustices are once again, and unfortunately, a thing again. While the arts have always been a way to express opinions and stances on current events, the increase of hip hop artists tackling the issues in the Black community are a direct representation of the current state of our country and the mindset of many who are simply tired of the mindless actions taken against said demographic.

MorValue artist Zeyi illustrates the undertone and concerns of the wronged with his documentary-esque video, “When There Is Hopelessness, People Revolt.” Laying lyrics over a 90s classic that also played as a sign of the times (Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg‘s “Deep Cover”), this track plays as an effort to point out that the humanity of Blacks should be a commonly understood birthright and not a privilege to potentially be earned over time.

With an upcoming EP titled No Promises, we should expect to hear more hard-hitting material from this artist.

Having previously released the track, “Black Power” back in February, artist Salomon Faye decided to illustrate exactly what he was talking about in his new video for the song. Leaving the Big Apple, Faye traveled to Baltimore to capture and document the truth behind the bias media reportings. Shot amidst the political unrest in the city during the protests for the wrongful death of Freddie Gray, director Kris Merc helps to create a mash-up of a mini-documentary and music video to bring the Harlem rapper’s song to life and support the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Bubbling Harlemite artist Salomon Faye has finally released his new EP, Stimulation. The Illuzion rapper has been building a buzz for the EP since January with such releases as, “Black Power”, “Luv”, “W.T.F.”, and “Faye.” With an official and recent body of work for listeners take in, don’t be surprised if you hear this artist’s name thrown around more often.

During a time in which occurrences of black killings frequently co-exist with black excellence, it is important to have strong figures that can help motivate and stabilize African-American culture. It seems that artist Salomon Faye has taken it upon himself to own up to said duties with the release of his hard-hitting track, “Black Power”. The never-shy artist utilizes the track to empower and celebrate his people while still lyrically killing his competition—”act consiously and feel my wrath astronomically,” he raps. Faye’s ability to talk his shit while simultaneously acting as an uplifting voice for his culture is untouchable.
