Johnny Crown is known for being the voice of the people, so at a time when there is a public outcry against the social injustices plaguing the Black community–of course, the Brooklyn-bred MC stepped up to deliver the message.

Breathing of fresh air to give us all hope, “Black Lives Matter” is armed with lyricism you just need to hear and an irresistible blend of dope beats and powerful hooks, Johnny Crown combines vintage Hip-Hop, Soul, poetic lyrics, and a message.

The release of his latest single comes five days after Crown dropped his initial track inspired by current events, “United States of Hell.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBFKWq3gyAK/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

For those unfamiliar, Johnny Crown broke down the doors on the underground scene with the release of his debut project, Drunk. An ode to being intoxicated off of life, Drunk served as the perfect introduction to his sophomore project, The Coolest Prince in the Jungle, which highlighted Crown’s love of Afrobeat, before the release of his first project focused on the social climate Shine Your Light. His latest project, Fear Don’t Live Here Anymore serves as a dose of love at a time when there is uncertainty and unrest.

“Fear Don’t Live Here Anymore is an affirmation of the times,” Johnny Crown said. “Where there is a pandemic and everyone is scared and panicking, I’m basically injecting Love into our atmosphere through the vibration of music with the intention to eradicate fear.”

Not only is Johnny a proven, talented musician, he is also a comic book creator, kids book author, actor, a stand-up comic also a mentor for Tina’s angels and Richards warrior a non-profit organization created by Beyoncé’s mother Mrs. Tina Knowles-Lawson and her husband Mr. Richard Lawson.

Keep up with Johnny Crown by following him here.

Singing sensation V Bozeman is the latest celebrity to speak out on behalf of the national #BlackLivesMatter movement in light of recent fatal police shootings involving black citizens, with a new song titled “Dear Officer.” The soul singer teams up with rap artist Young Lyfe and producer Rodney Jones, Jr. (Lil Rod) to unveil a heartfelt “letter” to law enforcement, with lyrics such as “Dear officer, will you let our husbands walk away, will you let our brothers live today, can our sons go outside to play. Dear officer, without getting shot up, even though they got their hands up…”

Marvin Bing, Creative Director at Art For Amnesty, sheds light on the significance of V Bozeman’s emotionally charged new song, “Music has long played a critical role in inspiring, mobilizing, and giving voice to the movement for black lives. The music and artists are playing a strong and vital role in the struggle for freedom. V continues to use her platform to continue that legacy. ‘Dear Officer’ gives the people a renewed courage and a sense of unity. I think it will inspire to keep alive a faith, a radiant hope, in this moment, particularly in our hopeless moment as a people,” Marvin explains.

Clarinetist, Eun, an Asian, Black Lives Matter activist is tackling a widespread issue of what she calls an “inconsistency” of every other genre but classical; who is accepting POC’s. How is she tackling this issue? Her plan of attack is through an activist-oriented orchestra dedicated to incorporating black women and transgender POC’s in her organization. She hopes to shed light and equality to the vast African-American race who were subject to racism, brutality and lack of representation. Check out the video below to witness the purpose and importance of such a huge step towards racial equality in not only America but within the performing arts.

Serving as a wake-up call for America shouted from the soul of the hip-hop underground, Phoeniz, Arizona’s Ra-Sool has released his new single featuring Naomi, “Stronger.” Speaking on the many lives lost to social injustice, Ra-Sool urges the listeners to take a stand.

The first lyrics both assert this strength and dedicate it to two recent martyrs of social injustice: “Trayvon, Mike Brown – rest in peace.”

However, Ra-Sool’s song isn’t just art for the sake of awareness. It’s art for direct civic transformation.

“I am releasing this project not for profit, rather for creative activism to promote social change and inspiration across the African-American diaspora,” he states.

Check out the powerful new track above.

Spitting rhymes that precursor the #BlackLivesMatter Movement, N.W.A. was not afraid to unleash the ugly truth on police brutality. Their music was the voice of the people, giving fans a glimpse of America’s worst nightmare.

With the events in Ferguson and Baltimore acting as mirror images to L.A.’s tumultuous past, artists like Janelle Monae and Kendrick Lamar have stepped up to the plate and used their artistry to voice the pain of individuals that have been burdened by injustice.

Although the amount activism in hip-hop has unified both fans and artists, the culture has not seen a “keep it real” group since N.W.A.

While the shadow that the Compton-based group cast is prominent, people need that voice more than ever – a martyr who isn’t afraid to keep it real and unfiltered while maintaining mainstream success.

Coining their music as “reality rap,” N.W.A. invited hip-hop heads to see life beyond New York City’s five boroughs. Their willingness to share their encounters with police brutality made it easier for the group to connect with those who experienced the struggles of growing up in an area that was feared by most and respected by few. Songs like “Straight Outta Compton,” “F**k Tha Police,” “100 Miles,” and “Runnin’” allowed N.W.A. to encourage entire community remain strong while educating those unaware of the abuse.

The honesty and power behind the group’s lyrics marks the group as one-of-a-kind. Their contribution to music continues to be the voice against police brutality, and an inspiration for those who are speaking out against it.

With conscious hip-hop on the rise, the quest to fill the void left by N.W.A. has encouraged the culture to find someone voice the reality of the current generation, and solidified their spot as the originators of “reality rap.”
