Producer / singer Anthony Cruz aka XLSREBELSLX dropped his Desire EP today, and (somewhat) lost West Coast underground champ Blu is featured on a prominent track. Besides theGodleeBarnes, the record could be a very tripped-out Black Keys production (a collab we certainly wouldn’t mind); it features an infectious stomp-clap rhythm and solid blues guitar, not to mention an infectious drugged out wail and the requisite sample of a children’s chorus. Blu’s verse might be the highlight though–he’s slurring, sinning, preaching. “No one would walk through the fire but John,” he spits in dramatic fashion, mythologizing his rise. Rapping and the Black Keys: two great tastes that continue to go great together. David Banner is a great rapper. Don Trip is shaping up to be a great rapper. This is a great remix to a great song. I am trying to break the record for most “greats” in a hundred word post. I think I’ve done a great job.

But, on to the main event. Banner and Trip’s “Do Work” is a very strong record and for those of you who like a little rock in your rap, this remix, which samples the Black Keys’ “I’ll Be Your Man” (the theme song to Hung) ups the ante of the already jammin’ original, changing the mood completely without changing the energy. Great.
