As seen on Monday [July 25] night, Michelle Obama made a very well spoken speech for the Democratic Convention. In the previously mentioned speech, she made the comment, “I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves,” which as history shows, is a correct and valid statement.

On Tuesday [July 26] night, Fox New’s Bill O’Reilly made the tactless comment in a 90-second segment at the tail end of his show where he spoke on Mrs. Obama’s comment saying that the White House slaves didn’t actually have it that hard and were “well fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government, which stopped hiring slave labor in 1802.”

The issue with this comment is not only that it attempts to justify slave labor, but it also attempts to somewhat rewrite what slavery truly was. By saying the government was “hiring slave labor” is an oxymoron. Slaves were paid nothing and received nothing for the work they did. By using the term “hiring,” it gives off the connotation that the slaves were subcontracted instead of commanded, which takes away from the harsh reality that slavery was.

His “well-fed”and “lodgings” claims are also relative. Many slave masters considered menial shacks “decent lodging” for slave families. Well fed could mean that they just went without starving. Even if these statements are true, however, it does nothing to justify slavery because the act of taking people from their country, forcing them to work and having them receive nothing, threatening punishments like whippings, cannot be justified. While O’Reilly may have made these claims to show the contrast between plantation slaves and the slaves that built and worked in the White House, it is still seen as demeaning and not well spoken.

While we anxiously await new music from the Harlem legend, we thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane and revisit an infamous non-music moment in Cam’ron’s legacy. In 2003, Cam and Dame Dash visited Bill O’Reilly over at Fox News and what ensued was a legendary piece of trolling. He’s always embraced his interest in rock (most recently on his Psycho White EP, for instance), but “Light Switch” is a bit left field when you consider the sample: Muse‘s “Uprising.” It was a huge record, but it’s just strange to imagine Yelawolf listening to it. Bill O’Reilly has said that it was one of his favorite records. That’s just a trifle though. People listen to a lot of things for a lot of different reasons.

But back to the topic, Yela delivers, using a notably staccato flow to punctuate his shouts and keep his voice atop the instrumental’s tinny percussions. Although Yelawolf is well-known for rapping fast, he’s just as capable of holding back, jabbing at the track instead of pummeling it. Perhaps that will be his approach to Black Fall. Listen to “Light Switch” below.

In one of the more unlikely encounters in modern hip-hop, Chicago’s own Lupe Fiasco will take to the Fox News stage tonight to talk with Bill O’Reilly at 8 PM EST. In what is likely to be a bizarre, thoroughly unsatisfying dialogue, Lu will likely be called upon to elaborate on the controversial politics he displayed in Laser’s second single, “Words I Never Said”. Fox News previews the episode:

Rapper Lupe Fiasco called Obama a terrorist and now he’s entering the No Spin Zone to explain his controversial comments!

There is literally no way to predict how this one turns out, but we can only hope it’s as entertaining as Cam’ron’s epic appearance on the program.
