Attorney Gloria Allred is kind of a big deal. Bill Cosby, President Donald Trump, OJ Simpson, Eddie Murphy, Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson are names that the Philadelphia native and Los Angeles-based lawyer has taken to task in court.

Tabbed as a feminist lawyer, Allred was honored last year at the 2016 International Women’s Forum (IWF) World Leadership Conference with the 2016 IWF Women Who Make a Difference Award.

She’s cementing a legacy and for those tardy to the party, her daughter, Lisa Bloom, is representing Blac Chyna in her revenge porn cases against ex-beau Rob Kardashian.

But I digress.

In a recent chat with me on Scoop B Radio, Gloria Allred shared her wish list of activists that she wished that she could have worked with. “I can answer that question pretty quickly actually cause Susan B Anthony,” Allred told me in an appearance on Scoop B Radio. “And Elizabeth Cady Stanton. I would’ve loved to have met them. They are my heroes. They fought for the right to vote for women and Sojourner Truth, of course, as well they all did and at great sacrifice of themselves.”

In 1997 Allred was honored with the Outstanding Member Award from the National Association of Women Lawyers. And in 1998 she was named one of The Most 50 Powerful Women in Los Angeles Law by the Los Angeles Business Journal and selected by the National Law Journal as one of The 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America.

She added more background to her who’s who of leading ladies she’d love to have worked with.

Voted one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in 1986, Allred earned her B.A. with honors in English from the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her M.A. from New York University and her J.D. cum laude from Loyola University School of Law in Los Angeles. She was also awarded an honorary J.D. from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law. “You know you don’t have to be a famous person to win change,” she told me on Scoop B Radio.

Allred added about Rosa Parks:

“She was not a famous person. So we can all have as I say in my book ‘A Rosa Parks moment every day.’ And we should have a Rosa Parks moment everyday where we’re not only a witness to what is wrong but we take action to right that wrong.”

Allred is a founding partner of the law firm Allred, Maroko & Goldberg. Her firm handles more women’s rights cases than any other private firm in the nation and has won hundreds of millions of dollars for victims. Ms. Allred also founded and is currently president of the Women’s Equal Rights Legal Defense and Education Fund (WERLDEF).

Ray J is potentially the first of those depicted naked in Kanye West’s “Famous” video, to take legal action. According to Daily Mail, Ray J and his manager, David Weintraub are in the midst of discussing plans to take legal action against Kanye West for the unauthorized inclusion and naked depiction of the R&B singer.

Earlier this month Kanye West released the largely controversial music video to his stand out track “Famous.” While there are many things to take away from The Life Of Pablo, one particular line had social media in an uproar.

“Too all my southside n***** that know me best/I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/why? I made that b**** famous”

While this is obviously controversial for many reasons, its the visuals that now has people talking. The video in question is a 10:44 minute, avant-garde take on a few celebrities in which have directly affected Kanye’s own life. In proceeding order, George Bush, Anna Wintour, Donald trump, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian-West, Ray J, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner, and finally Bill Cosby, are all depicted naked in wax form, lying next to each other beneath white sheets, on a large bed. While the visuals alone would understandably be tough to digest for anyone, it appears to be the order in which they’ve been placed that’s causing Ray J the most pain. This stemming from years ago in which a sex tape between the now wife of Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and former lover Ray J, propelled them into infamous stardom.

Regarding Ray J’s position on pursuing legal situation, Weintraub told Heat Magazine “We’re talking about potentially doing something. There’s too many times Kanye has done this. You can’t really continue to use people’s likenesses without either compensation or clearance. It seems to be becoming an issue—this is like the fourth time in six months he’s done this. We haven’t really worked anything out. There were kind of discussions but it’s getting old, so our legal team is working out what we want to do with everything.”

Legal action may be happening sooner rather than later considering Ray J isn’t too pleased with the amount of controversy the new music video has caused him in his personal life. Last week, Ray J told Entertainment Tonight “I’m engaged. My marriage is all messed up ’cause of craziness. I’m not part of nothing crazy. I walk down a good path. My fiancee tripping. It’s all bad in my world, and that ain’t cool. Don’t put me part of nothing that’s weird, that don’t make no sense. Can I grow up?”

It will be interesting to see how Ray J and his legal team proceed with this unusual case, however it looks like Kanye Wests tweet daring someone to sue him over the video may just come true after all (watch video below).

What do Lil Wayne, Birdman and Bill Cosby all have in common? Well, nothing really, but the funny people over at Broken Equipment Productions have found a way to bring all three together for a hilarious new clip, that makes light of both the recent drink-throwing incident, as well as Bill Cosby’s sudden fall from grace.

I was hoping we could get a video that was a parody of the recent developments with Young Thug and Birdman, but for now, this’ll do. These guys never disappoint.

This past Thursday, September 26th, Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought sat down with Professor Millery Polyné for New York University’s Albert Gallatin Lecture Series. The free event was held at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study’s Jerry H. Labowitz Theatre for the Performing Arts and was attended by roughly 150 students, alumni and public listeners.

The Roots’ frontman spoke at length on topics such as his first rap group (which included Beanie Sigel), the visual arts being his first love, his relationship with Bill Cosby and his involvement in the Soulquarians: “It was a movement. We inspired each other. The competition strengthened the union, raising the bar as a collective.”

Ever the proud Philadelphian, Black Thought drew surprised laughter when he compared Will Smith‘s storyteller flow to Slick Rick‘s: “Will Smith was Slick Rick before Slick Rick, only more PC and less jewelry.” But the response was more subdued when he compared Schooly D‘s cadence to Ice-T‘s: “Ice-T rapped just like Schooly D, only with a California accent.”

While explaining the reason for the political nature of his rhymes, the Grammy-winning artist revealed that his father died when he was two, and his mother when he was 16. Growing up hearing stories of his father’s involvement in the Islamic community gave him a social awareness that he possesses to this day.

“Where you are from and where you are going are coordinates that define where you are right now.” – Black Thought

A recent full-circle moment for Black Thought was being honored with a mural by the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. What makes this accolade so poignant is that the program began as the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti network, through which Trotter was once sentenced to 150 hours of “scrub time” for scrawling his art on a public building.

Stay tuned for an appearance by Black Thought in Sonia Sanchez‘ upcoming documentary as well as the release of his first solo album, The Talented Mr. Trotter.
