All of a sudden it’s Big Sean‘s year for the taking, following a self-care sabbatical and proper return to the microphone with “Overtime.” Now, he brings out the big guns in the form of “Single Again,” which he himself explained:

“For the first time in my life I 100% believe in myself and that’s something I’m so happy I got to achieve in this lifetime. I think at one point I stopped having fun with life and it became a burden. It’s not suppose to feel like that and if it is then change it. I always would find so much joy n happiness in a relationship or being with friends, but I didn’t know how important it was to be in a relationship with yourself. But when you work on yourself and bring your best self to something, I believe that’s truly how to experience a love where you are bringing happiness and joy and not dependency. I’m in a great place though n don’t want to get too deep but I just want to share my journey with y’all…”

Interestingly enough, the track features his ex Jhené Aiko, alongside Ty Dolla $ign…production comes from Cam O’bi, Dee Lilly and Sean himself, and includes a sample of the Carl Thomas classic “I Wish.” Enjoy below and get ready for that forthcoming album (’cause you know it’s on the way).

After briefly teasing his fans with the above return to the microphone, Big Sean reveals his official single titled “Overtime,” his first solo drop since I Decided dropped a couple of years ago (he did deliver the polarizing Metro Boomin collaboration Double Or Nothing that same year as well). He also explained the release during a visit to Zane Lowe on Beats 1, who premiered the song:

In a sense I just been returning to my roots, bro. I’ve just been getting back to having fun with it. You know what I’m saying? At one point I felt like it might have started to become like a burden, or like work, but now it’s just fun. So this is just me having fun bro, expressing myself. It was a time well spent. I never really knew how important it was to take some time for myself and get myself right. And it takes a while so it can take … That’s something you can’t really put on a time schedule. But you know, throughout that whole time I’ve been working on music so it is good to get it out. It is good for people to just finally see where we are because I got so much just ready for the world. It’s deeper than just putting music out. It’s like I feel like I got a lot to say that a lot of people may not be addressing right now. You know what I’m saying? As far as just emotions and feelings that a lot of people are going through.

With all of the bulls*** going on (namely, Nipsey Hussle’s tragic passing), one interesting revelation seems to have been quickly swept under the rug: the leak of an unreleased Kendrick Lamar song, which adds fuel to the fire by sending what sounds like more direct shots to Big Sean:

I think his false confidence got him inspired
I can’t make them respect you baby, it’s not my job
You’re finally famous for who you date, not how you rhyme
Cute ass raps, get your puberty up…

HipHopNMore has speculated that the lyrics could’ve belonged to an earlier version of the DAMN. cut “ELEMENT.”

Obviously, it was the now-infamous track “Control” that even sparked the who’s the best debate; since then, tracks like Sean’s (and Metro Boomin’s) “Big Bidness” and Kendrick’s “The Heart Part 4” have seemingly brought us closer to what could be one of the greatest Rap battles on wax. This Friday brings up a step closer to YG‘s forthcoming new album Stay Dangerous, as the Compton emcee delivers a new single titled “Big Bank,” which features heavyweights 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Nicki Minaj. Also, the track was produced by (DJ) Mustard…all the makings of a top 10 hit.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and I’ve already got 2Pac‘s “Dear Mama” and 2 Chainz‘ “Proud” in heavy rotation (playlist coming soon). Today, Fat Joe follows up some recent (and very underrated) singles with a new drop titled “Momma,” which features Big Sean and frequent collaborator Dre (of Cool & Dre, who produced it). As expected, the track is a dedication to their respective mothers and a perfect addition to your matriarch-inspired listening session.

Vibe to “Momma” below, said to be taken from Fat Joe’s forthcoming release Family Ties.
