While vinyl has enjoyed a mild resurgence, cassette tapes haven’t had the same luck. Until now. Kind of. French artist Benoit Jammes has reappropriated cassette tapes, using them to make humorous and clever sculptures. In the same way that hip-hop’s founders used their parents’ record collections to create a novel form of music, Jammes uses old cassette tapes to author an original kind of art. Jammes‘ innovation will probably not become a global force like hip-hop has, but it’s fresh and stylish nonetheless.
