Premier: Jace Abstract & Robin Da Landlord Travel Back In Time On ‘Rockstalgia’ (EP)

Jace Abstract and Robin Da Landlord travel back in time with their ‘Rockstalgia’ EP. Abstract and Landlord have an adoration for the 90’s sound, and ‘Rockstalgia’ is a sonic representation of the vibe they’re curating. ‘Rockstalgia’ is a 6-track collection where the two European creatives (Jace from Switzerland and Robin from the Netherlands) embody a retrospective take on Hip-Hop; somewhat of a musical time machine that transplants the listener to a specific era, that era prophetically being the 90’s. Robin Da Landlord’s Boom-Bap aesthetic on record has a grass-roots feel to it, capturing the essence of the rhyme and doing so in a manner that translates an older, seemingly forgotten sound to todays market. Jace Abstract’s hard-knocking punchlines and wordplay lend way to a deeper, more emotionally contextual sound. Cuts like ‘Sin City,’ ‘Mad World’ and ‘Think Back’ act as insightful narratives, where tracks like ‘Listen‘ and ‘One‘ are more lyrical exercises, emphatically delivered bars allowing Jace to lyrically flex on record. Dropping on Below System Records, ‘Rockstalgia’ is a modern day revival of an antiquated sound lost in the pages of rap history. The producer/rhymer paradigm created by these two European hopefuls is evident in the fact that the music is not only moving, but also reminiscent of a time where it was lyrics above all else. Masta Ace Re-Releases “A Long Hot Summer” + Bonus Cut “GMO”

Veteran emcee Masta Ace‘s 2004 “A Long Hot Summer” needs no introduction. If you’re unfamiliar with the record, Below System Records has just properly re-released it under their imprint – additionally offering two previously unreleased cuts “GMO” (below) and “Globetrotter”.

Ambrosia For Heads recently exchanged some dialogue with Ace in reflection of the record and bonus tracks: “GMO” is a joint I started writing over a year ago. I got that beat from Brutal Artistry when I was in Leeds, England with eMC almost two years ago. I was just waiting for the right opportunity to finish the verse. Its a very simple 40 bar verse, just talking shit. I don’t do very many songs like that, so this is a special joint for that reason.”

Below System Records brings us another dope visual. “Florin’ Light Rail”, off JR & PH7 and Chuuwee‘s latest collaborative release, takes us on a visual journey on and off Sacramento’s public transportation. A description here is unnecessary, just trust us and check it out belowThe single package for “Florin’ Light Rail” is now available, which features the original track, an acapella version, and the Drew Dave remix (who is fresh off his Mello Music Group release ‘SynthBASED‘). This is not the first go-around for a collaboration with Sacramento’s Chuuwee, but the first full length effort and certainly their most crafted, complete body of work. There’s no denying that the three of them have ridiculous amounts of chemistry.

This may be the closest you get to a ride through Sacramento streets without actually visiting, while Chuuwee displays solid story telling and situational endeavors over JR & PH7’s convincing soundscapes. Aside the locational execution, relatable subjects were addressed – growing up, family ties, relationships and the power of a dollar. The features are tasteful, but don’t overwhelm the lp, with help from the wests own Blu, St3wart KooL, Bueno and Sean LaMarr. The record is an solid release for 2015, as there is still a lot of phony “hip-hop” being released. Be sure to grab your digital copy at iTunes. JR & PH7 and Chuuwee‘s collaborative record The South Sac Mack is finally available to the public. For those who’ve been trailing our posts at RESPECT. Mag leading up to this release we know you’ve been waiting for this. Just getting on board? It’s all good. Let’s briefly take a look at the album and walk through the details together before you tune in to this jewel.

If you’ve been living in the dark, German production duo JR & PH7 are two beat smiths who have an extensive resume and an acclaimed reputation on the hip-hop scene. This is not the first go-around for a collaboration with Sacramento’s Chuuwee, but the first full length effort and certainly their most crafted, complete body of work. There’s no denying that the three of them have ridiculous amounts of chemistry.

New Single: JR & PH7 X Chuuwee – “Meadowview Morning”

“Meadowview Morning“ is the second single taken from JR & PH7 and Chuuwee‘s collaborative full length release, “The South Sac Mack“ produced by the European duo JR & PH7 and rhymes by Chuuwee, where he gets support from Bueno and Sean LaMarr. As Chuuwee explains: ”Meadowview Morning is my reflection of growing up in the notorious Meadowview neighborhood in South Sacramento. Every morning before school I was awaken by gunshots, fights, sirens and the sounds of crime and poverty.”

“The South Sac Mack” is based on stories of Chuuwee’s teenage years growing up in South Sacramento and is set to drop March 24th via Below System Records. Purchase the single.
