Beast Coast Come Together in New Visual for “Distance”

If you missed it, Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers came together like Voltron, releasing the long-overdue Beast Coast project Escape From New York. This week, we get to check out a new visual from the project for “Distance,” directed by Levi Turner…the (mostly) black-and-white visual sees the Joey BADA$$, Erick Arc Elliott and Issa Gold-led collective taking over Brooklyn. The clip ends with a teaser of another track, “Bones.”

New Mixtape: CJ Fly (Pro-Era) “Thee Way Eye See It”

CJ Fly is officially the newest break-out emcee from the Pro-Era crew. The 20 year old rapper just dropped his first solo mixtape, Thee Way Eye See It, last Friday, and it is obvious that he means business. The debut project not only features production from hot producers like Carnage, Statik Selektah, and Esta, but it also has an impressive list of guest artists–most notably, Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest. How this 20 year old managed to get one of hip-hop’s greatest retired rappers to appear on his first mixtape is beyond us. However, after listening to track, its obvious why the two decided to collab. CJ Fly‘s first album is lyrically focused, while still maintaining a very smooth vibe, reminiscent of the old school New York swag pioneered by groups like ATCQ. We’re interested in seeing which songs from the new tape CJ is going to debut while he’s performing on the Smokers Club Tour this winter. So far, tracks like “The Heist”, “Too Paid”, and “Seek Well” have received the most praise from CJ‘s fan base.

Flatbush Zombies’ Better Off Dead Official Release Date Video

The Flatbush Zombies are ready. Via a YouTube video posted last night, Erik Arc Elliot, Meechy Darko, and Zombie Juice released the curious date–9/11/13–of their date of their new, self-released project, Better Off Dead. The promo video also serves as a sneak peek to the visuals and audio for a new video directed by Phillip T. Annand. So far, the video has mixed reviews: the Zombie fans are pumped after months of soft release dates, and sneaker fans are appalled at Darko‘s choice of kicks to rock while digging a ditch. New Music: The Underachievers Tribute to Capital Steez “6th Sense”

Obviously, in the wake of Capital Steez‘s premature death, there are a wealth of tribute songs, mixes, and videos being made to honor his memory. The newest track from Brooklyn duo The Underachievers, stands out as one of the best joints to honor the rap legacy of their ProEra brother. As neighbors in the hip hop culture, the two movements shared a similar lifestyle, making it only right for The Underachievers to take time away from their upcoming project with Brainfeeder to send their love to a well-respected friend. The cut, entitled “6th Sense“, is produced by The Entreproducers, who hail from Rhode Island and have done work for both the ProEra collective as well as Beast Coast, Kembe X and others.
