This year Charlotte rapper James Malik has been making major moves from opening up for Curren$y this summer to sharing stages with ATL natives like OG Maco and Awful Records‘ Lord Narf and Archibald Slim. Recently the artist shed some light on his interpretation of the women in the realms of the Atlanta scene on his second self-produced single coming off his fourth campaign, “Diana.” Although this is only the beginning for the versatile artist, be sure to sample a taste of what’s yet to come below.

Awful Records’ Abra Drops “Sick Girl”

Awful Records’ sweetheart Abra lets go of another song titled “Sick Girl” which brings that usual house-infused-R&B sound she has been perfecting with each drop. The track carries a very clubby synth riff with a simple drum arrangement. Her vocals carry that hypnotic rhythm that will catch you in a vibe. No word on if this means there is an expected project dropping later this year, either way, it is worth listening to. She is probably one of the most interesting new artists you should be very excited about. Take in the song below.

ILoveMakonnen’s Teases Potential Upcoming Album

Just earlier at the Billboard Hot 100 Festival, ILoveMakonnen subliminally announced that he would be dropping his album this coming October. We aren’t exactly sure what the name of the album will be exactly, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s titled, ILoveMakonnen 2 since he tweeted the alleged title along with saying,”10/2015 bye.” Being that it’s somewhat too early to gather more information on the upcoming album, all we can do is assume that the album will have an unpredictable sound, be catchy as f*ck, and possibly consist of collaborations from other artists of OVO, as well as Awful Records (like Father for instance). In the meanwhile, we’ll just have to keep paying attention to the public notions and subliminal social media announcements of October’s Very Own.

ABRA & Vashite on Top: New Video + New Lookbook

Today is definitely a great day for Awful Records’ Abra! Just minutes ago, the talented songstress decided to drop her interview with i-D Magazine as well her new video for her single “U Kno“ from her latest album Rose. The video was shot and directed by the very dope UNIF Clothing and features Abra in a bath tub with a very talented skater (who you can catch at Babylon in LA) named Lil Phillis. Not only is her unique video making wave but her “Roses” single was also featured in Vashtie’s latest self-directed lookbook for Puma (who’s collection is available now). It’s great to see these women making dope moves and progressing in a major way! This collab was unexpected but nonetheless being highly appreciated. Although we’re hoping to see more coming from these two, here’s a peek at the fire that’s taking place here and now. Enjoy!

Meet an Awful Rose: ABRA

Atlanta’s ABRA has been making waves this year with her R&B sound and fire a** beats . Whether she’s making a random song like “fruit” or collaborating with her labelmates from Awful Records like Father, Archibald Slim, or Stalin Majesty, she can literally make anything sound effortlessly dope. Last December, her single “U Go I Go” (which I’m still bumping now; in mid July) exclusively premiered on Billboard and she didn’t dare to stop at just a hot record. Abra released her album just last June entitled Rose and it is definitely worth the talk. Amongst the album’s “must listen” singles are “Roses“ , “Pride“, and “U Kno“. Following the album, she put out a video for “Roses” that features her playing video games and showing off how she’s “young and will waste you away”. Her music and personality could possibly come across as Mary J. Blige meets Madonna, but whatever project Awful’s not so first lady is releasing next, is bound to be unique and will not go unnoticed.

PREMIERE: MAZ – “The Prologue” (Video)

Back in February, Cleveland singer Monique Atreece Zahir, better known as MAZ, released her single, “The Prologue”, a song that she described as “an anecdote of a hazy love affair”. While the track, produced by MadBliss, was simply a loosie, listeners were left wanting more and through a series of tweets, shows and an interview, it was revealed that this was just a taste of what’s next.

While we, here at RESPECT. patiently await more music from her, MAZ has granted us the privilege of premiering the brand new visual for “The Prologue”. Shot in Atlanta, the steamy, sultry clip accompanies MAZ’s spacey, yet soulful vocals, and what we end up with is nothing less than impressive, both visually and audibly.
