Children are so powerful, they have a way of saying and doing things that most of us adults are still trying to figure out how to do; in which is why I love writing about children and their efforts. The ideas, inspiration and motivation that they possess as well as the things they’re capable of doing are amazing to say the least and this story is proves how courageous they can be.

After 6 year old Lex was told by a classmate that her brother was ‘weird’ – she turned around and penned a heartwarming letter to her teacher about the ordeal in which took social media by storm. You see, Lex’s brother is autistic; in her letter she wanted to express the challenges that people with disabilities face everyday. Per media site the HuffPost, Lex decided to defend her brother and take a heroic stand in his defense. In Lex’s letter she wrote:

“My brother has autism and is not weird, “I would like it if we could learn about all disabilities in school so that everybody understands that some people are different but we should all be treated the same.”

Lex’s mom, Sophi Camilleri shared the letter on Facebook in which garnered over 21,000 likes, 1.3K comments and over 28,000 shares. Talk about an impact!

Autism affects early brain development in children, These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors; Studies also show that autism is four to five times more common among boys than girls. An estimated 1 out of 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States.

Determined to make a change, Lex has since gone before the school council at her school to make sure this letter goes into affect. Her letter has already been shared with the U.K’s National Austistic Society.  WAY TO GO LEX!!
