For those unfamiliar with Flip this album a good introduction to what he is capable of. Dreaming is a thick record with veteran emcee A.G. (of the legendary Diggin’ In The Crates crew) lyrically canvasing his raw, dreamy production. With wider international renown, Flip is just now growing to recognition in the United States—better late than never with this talent!

Flip is a Hip-Hop producer based out of Austria with a background of 20+ years in the game. His sound is heavily reminiscent of Hip-Hop’s golden era, the boom-bap years. Yes, his production is raw, gritty and pure Hip-Hop, but it’s not stuck in a time machine by any means. Flip is not afraid to experiment and incorporate some synthesizer-heavy or non-formulaic layouts when he’s building beats. Not only is he successfully engaged in his production career, but Flip has also rhymed alongside legendary Austrian group Texta since 1993. Together they have a successful, acclaimed 7 album catalog, as well as a solo record he dropped in 2010.

On February 17  Flip is set to release his long awaited producer compilation album Reflections on Ill Adrenaline Records. He links up with some United States’ heavyweights on this record, blessing the masses with featured emcees that will include Elzhi, Guilty Simpson, Killah Priest, Kev Brown, and Tragic Allies. Mark your calendar folks: February 17 Dreaming will be available on digital copy, cd, vinyl and cassette.

Frank Ocean has torn his vocal cord, forcing him to cancel his Australian Tour. In a press statement, promoter Live Nation explained:

“After last night’s concert… it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show. It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice.”

On Thursday, during his opening night performance, Ocean was off key. He openly told the crowd that it was due to illness. This probably means that the audio to his Versace Remix isn’t coming anytime soon. Rest well, Frank.

After a trip to Australia that was high in drama, Tyler, The Creator finally reunited with his cat. The artist posted this picture with the caption, “REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD! ❤”

Update: This is not Tyler’s cat. (It’s still cute though)

Fresh paint just landed on the walls of Hasselt, a Belgian city. Smug, collaborated with street artists Dater, Chas and Panic on a large mural for the Street Art Festival.
Smug, an Australian born artist based in Scotland delivers a photo-realistic portrait with an original hint of humor. His ability to bring fantasy to ordinary characters and realism to fictional characters is captivating! Check out more of Smug‘s work below!

Beastman & Jae Copp

Beastman and Jae Copp are currently in their native Australia for The Hours Tower Mural Project.  The project aims to network renowned street artists and inspire more breathtaking collaborations like these.

Beastman’s use of repeated geometric shapes and organic patterns depicts a parallel universe of hope and survival. Beastman brings nature to life in unique, surreal fashion. The rising artist is part of the group The Hours, and his large murals can be found throughout the globe in Australia, London, Berlin, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Tell Aviv and New York.

Jae Copp has worked with wood for many years. When he branched out into different mediums, his understanding of wood continued to influence his use of brush strokes. Copp’s work looks like wood prints on wall; he is an architect of illusions. With one simple image, he can create an infinity of shapes, breeding an almost kaleidoscopic vision. The above mural, “1 Fish 2 Fish” uses repetition in the same captivating manner as Beastman. You don’t have to stare for long for it to become hypnotic.
