K.eYe.D shows many layers on ‘AsTheWorldTurns.’ VA’s K.eYe.D has kept a fairly enigmatic and low key presence while dropping works that are seemingly on the forefront of originality. Produced by frequent collaborator Thelonious Martin, ‘As The World Turns’ is visually captivating. Documenting the true beauty of Chicago’s skyline, (via ariel shots) a Bulls game, and drowned out, trippy studio sessions bring to life a record that is original all in itself. From the opening scene which depicts the style of child-like interactions from an intense game of Call Of Duty, to getting imaginatively lost in the late night, smoke filled environment of studio life, ‘ATWT’ gives a face to a lyricist whose words create an array of emotions and chronicles the journey of venturing beyond your limits for the sake of art. “I got my Jordan’s and I stash the eighth inside em’/Minor problem welcome to my insane asylum.” acts merely as a taste of K.eYe.D’s deft wordplay and speaks to the mentality of youthful discovery. An obvious homage to Chi-Town culture and an everyday look at K.eYe.D out of his environment but in his comfort zone, ‘As The World Turns’ strengthens the bond and chemistry between he and Thelonious and puts a stamp on not only the quality of his sound, but his creative direction as well. K.eYe.D’s ‘As The World Turns’ embodies what it means to be a young creative looking for answers of existence and circumstance.
