Back in 2009, the music world lost a pioneer DJ in Adam Michael Goldstein aka DJ AM. In the six years since his passing, fellow artists like DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mark Ronson and Travis Barker, who survived a plane crash with him, have continued to keep his name and legacy alive. Joining the effort is award-winning filmmaker Kevin Kerslake, who, along with Indiegogo, has launched a campaign to release As I Am: The Life and Time$ of DJ AM, a reflective documentary on Goldstein’s life.

Contributions to the crowdfunding campaign will cover the costs of licensing, as well as distribution and marketing. All proceeds made from As I Am will benefit MusiCares, which is a charity for the DJ AM Memorial Fund.

Harlem MC/producer Crystal Caines drops off a care package in the form of five new tracks. (via COMPLEX) For anyone who thought it may be difficult for Ms. Caines to follow up her breakout single “Whiteline” (w/ A$AP Ferg) think again. Sure, this isn’t an album or even an EP for that matter, but the production value and audible diversity within these releases is artistically validating to say the least. If her upcoming “Vertigo” EP sounds anything like these records, it’s going to be difficult for other artists to keep up.
