To kick things off, T.R.3 was on his more laid-back steez with “Donuts & Derbies,” a lyrically impressive offering with moody production from Ariano. The two then moved on to something entirely more boisterous with the uber-relevant “Hypocrite,” an anthem for anyone frustrated with society and those in power. Closing things out was “Light Harvest,” a trippy and psychedelic joint that showcased another tool in T.R.3’s kit. Turns out the kid has some strong vocals as well, and he uses them to great effect on the hazy track.

But the well-rounded artist wasn’t done there. He also used all three videos to show off his directorial talents. After co-directing the cinematic “Derbies & Donuts,” T.R.3 took the helm for both “Hypocrite” and “Light Harvest.”  He also used the mood that he and Ariano created to set the tone, with both videos perfectly capturing the essence of each track.

Deserted Oceans is Def-i in his prime; his lyrics are purposeful, and his wordplay is laden with thoughtful metaphors. His stylings are multi-faceted, flowing effortlessly from rapid-fire bars to a slowed down cadence. His message speaks truth to power, underpinned with hope and positivity.

The production throughout the eight track effort is moody, raw and heavy with bass. Ariano manages to underscore his hard-hitting production with an ethereal quality that lays a solid foundation for Def-i to—as Ariano puts it—“rap his ass off.”

There’s a new anthem for the fight and the search from the darkness. LA icon 60 East brings you “The Light,” featuring SoCal veteran, Ariano. Warm, somber bass and hard-knocking drums set the stage for 60 East to take us on a lyrical journey, laced with pain and longing, of being in a relationship with someone trapped by addiction. His verses are raw and unfiltered, complimented by Ariano’s pleading hook.

T.R.3 of the IMG crew is a young artist on the grind from Atlanta to Cali. Fresh off his Prelude EP and viral hit “Statistics,” T.R.3 teams up with veteran West Coast producer, Ariano, for a collaborative EP, Together Alone. Rising experimental-rap artist Sage One the Wise vividly explores the highs and lows of the many vices we all struggle with today on “New Drugs,” his brand-new single featuring West Coast Hip-Hop veteran, Ariano.

Given their like-minded outside-the-box approaches to music, this collaboration makes sense on paper and also totally delivers in its final form. Fresh off a rewarding 2016 featuring the release of his Love Is Not Lazy project, Ariano (who also produced this track) remains rejuvenated and in prime form on “New Drugs” alongside his youthful counterpart.

And while he may be younger, Orange County, CA native Sage is no newcomer to the culture. He’s been b-boying since age nine and has dropped a number of successful projects, including his genre-bending 2015 effort, The Oldies But Goodies Collection. He’s also wise beyond his years, which he uses to his advantage while lyrically investigating the track’s subject matter. It makes for a listen that’s equally heady and addictive (no pun intended), and a single that’s bound to bring the kid even more attention this year as he gears up to release his debut album, The Sage Project.

Armed with a songwriting style that’s both imaginative and personal, Los Angeles rap veteran Ariano tackles the concept of love from a place few have ever considered. He’s doing more than rhyming about heartbreak and loss, because love extends to all parts of our life—and he explores every nook of it on his new EP, Love Is Not Lazy.

Ariano’s focus on the project became clear with the release of his compelling lead single, “Everything’s OK,” a searing and aggressive piece of social commentary that touches on a lack of love for your fellow man. From there, he broached the subject of relationships on “Anymore” alongside his teenage son, Sage Price, who sings the hook. And the final leak, “The Rush,” questioned whether the love you have for someone is really there, or not—is it a dream or reality?

These tracks and the remainder of Love Is Not Lazy are propelled not only by Ariano’s intensely honest lyricism, but also his growing prominence as a producer. He creates instrumentals that run the gamut from raw and distorted (“The Rush”) to dreamy and dusty (“Breakthrough”), but he ties them all together with a singular vision.

Of course, fans of the SoCal Hip-Hop scene have recognized these talents for more than a decade. The rapper/producer has released a number of standout projects, including Music2Breakup2 in 2007 and this year’s fully instrumental Less Is More, Volume 1. Ariano has also worked alongside numerous L.A. icons, including DJ Rhettmatic, Akil of Jurassic 5, Murs and 2Mex, and Snoop Dogg, among many others. In 2016 alone, he produced and featured on tracks by Zion I, Pigeon John, and Daddy Grace (aka Born Allah).

Ariano’s done much of it alongside his musical partner LDontheCut (who DJs for Sublime with Rome), who skillfully handled all of the mixing and mastering on the seven track EP. In 2006, the two cemented their bond by founding a label, Technicali Sound, and releasing a collaborative record, A Thin Line. LINS also features smooth guitar work from Ian “ENS” Silverman and, as mentioned, Ariano’s son Sage Price, who shows up on two tracks.

All of this hard work over the years has fueled Ariano’s unmistakable passion and spirit. And it’s those qualities that also drive his tales about love, hate, and everything in between on Love Is Not Lazy. What makes “Anymore” so compelling is not just that Ariano is clearly a gifted lyricist and producer. It’s the fact that the single, which is the latest off his upcoming Love Is Not Lazy EP, demonstrates his knack for crafting engaging and catchy music that also carries a message.

Of course, this isn’t a surprise to anyone following the Los Angeles artist’s career, or anyone who peeped his previous single, the politically charged “Everything’s OK.” Ariano weaves easily relatable narratives within his verses on “Anymore,” which plays like a final send-off to a former friend who was eager to take, but never give anything in return.

“Anymore” also serves as a major collaboration for Ariano—because it features the first-ever released vocals from his 15-year-old son, Sage Price. The young and super-talented vocalist provides the fittingly moody chorus, which is likely to stick to your brain once the track fades out. Not only that, but there’s some slick guitar work from Ian Silverman aka E.N.S. on here to boot, which Ariano deftly fuses within the song production.
