<p>Black History Month is here and while the month is short and will be over before you know it, it&#8217;s a month where African-Americans of times past and present are honored for their sacrifices, achievements and accomplishments marked throughout history. It&#8217;s a time for us to reflect on that rich history and celebrate the lives of the ones lost and present whom paved the way for generations of other African Americans to walk in freedom and while this movement is still a &#8220;work in progress&#8221; for the most part, we&#8217;re proud that they stood fearlessly in the face of adversity to make sure we have some of the luxuries we have today such as the right to vote.</p>
<p>One way to honor and look back on African-American culture, history, activists and the actors that played them or played parts representing such troubling times is by way of a movie. I personally love watching movies, especially the ones that portray the African-American men and women whom did so much for us. So, if you just happen to have a down day this month and want to celebrate the occasion, listed below are 10 Classic movies portrayed by African-Americans that you should watch in honor of Black History Month. In no particular order they are:</p>
<p>&#8216;Purple Rain&#8217;</p>
<p>What better way to celebrate black history <i>and </i>the life of music legend <strong>Prince</strong>. The musical drama features some of Prince’s most iconic songs and killer outfits.</p>

<p>&#8216;Malcolm X&#8217;</p>
<p>&#8216;Malcolm X&#8217; is was <strong>Spike Lee</strong> classic, portrayed by <strong>Denzel Washington</strong>. The movie chronicled the life of the civil rights hero.</p>

<p>&#8220;&#8216;Selma&#8217;</p>
<p><strong>Ava DuVernay</strong> made history with &#8216;Selma&#8217; in 2014, becoming the first black woman to have her film nominated for “Best Picture” at the Oscars. &#8216;Selma&#8217; is a portrait piece of <strong>Dr. Martin Luther King</strong> as he led the march from Selma to Montgomery for voting rights.</p>

<p>&#8216;Glory&#8217;</p>
<p>Free black men were conscripted to fight in the Union Army during the Civil War, but as this 1989 period drama shows, not even their willingness to sacrifice their lives for their country was enough to shield them from racism and segregation. Denzel Washington stars in the role that would nab him his first Oscar.</p>

<p>&#8216;Barry&#8217;</p>
<p>&#8216;Barry&#8217; is one of two drama films (of what will surely be many) that take a glimpse at the life of a younger former President <strong>Barack Obama</strong>, the man who would one day become the first black president of the United States.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="154279" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2017/02/10-black-movie-classics-watch-honor-black-history-month/large_barry-poster-2016/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/large_Barry-poster-2016.jpg?fit=400%2C593&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="400,593" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="large_Barry-poster-2016" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/large_Barry-poster-2016.jpg?fit=400%2C593&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/large_Barry-poster-2016.jpg?fit=400%2C593&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-154279" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/large_Barry-poster-2016.jpg?resize=400%2C593" alt="large_Barry-poster-2016" width="400" height="593" data-recalc-dims="1" /></p>
<p>&#8216;The Princess &amp; the Frog&#8217;</p>
<p>In 2009, Disney made history by featuring its first ever African-American princess. <strong>Anika Noni-Rose</strong> portrayed princess Tiana in this film.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="154281" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2017/02/10-black-movie-classics-watch-honor-black-history-month/princess-and-frog/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Princess-and-Frog.jpg?fit=2000%2C3000&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="2000,3000" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="Princess and Frog" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Princess-and-Frog.jpg?fit=2000%2C3000&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Princess-and-Frog.jpg?fit=640%2C960&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-154281" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Princess-and-Frog-640x960.jpg?resize=640%2C960" alt="Princess and Frog" width="640" height="960" data-recalc-dims="1" /></p>
<p>&#8216;The Color Purple&#8217;</p>
<p>Okay, so there&#8217;s really nothing to say about this one but &#8211; CLASSIC!!!</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="154284" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2017/02/10-black-movie-classics-watch-honor-black-history-month/color-purple/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Color-Purple.jpg?fit=800%2C1200&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="800,1200" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="Color Purple" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Color-Purple.jpg?fit=800%2C1200&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Color-Purple.jpg?fit=640%2C960&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-154284" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Color-Purple-640x960.jpg?resize=640%2C960" alt="Color Purple" width="640" height="960" data-recalc-dims="1" /></p>

<p>Season 3 of <i>Power</i> found <b>Ghost</b> doing everything he could to sever his ties to the drug world and concentrating his savviness and charm on Truth, seeing it rise to the precipice of becoming one of the worlds top nightclubs. But as Angela escorted him out of his nightclub in handcuffs in the finale, he saw his plan to leave the underworld thwarted again.</p>
<p>&#8220;Delayed&#8221; is the better term, because viewers can predict that Ghost probably won&#8217;t be in jail for long. (And as someone who hasn&#8217;t quite atoned for his sins, getting charged for the one he hasn&#8217;t committed could provide a radical change of his intentions next season.) Moments after Knox figured out that Sandoval was the leak, Sandoval killed him. It&#8217;s obvious that Angela let her emotions get the best of her—she&#8217;s still upset over the breakup with Ghost—and let a rather vague discussion with Ghost and a set of fingerprints lead her to falsely conclude that Ghost killed Knox. She&#8217;s spent most of the season making sure that her tracks are covered, but what happens now that she&#8217;s taken the primary reason she&#8217;s had to do that into custody?</p>
<p>Ghost and Tommy finally took out Milan, who went out as quietly as he moved in. As a result, Tommy became the new connect, and unbeknownst to Ghost, kept Milan&#8217;s men alive, who&#8217;ll be aids in keeping Ghost tethered to the drug business. The underhandedness at which Tommy made this move is no shocker, because he never wanted Ghost to get out in the first place and was sick of his lies. It&#8217;s simply another stage in the relationship between the two that&#8217;s become frayed as a result of Ghost&#8217;s change of heart.</p>
<p>Finally, in a most satisfying return, Jukebox (<b>Anika Noni Rose</b>) rode into New York and convinced Kanan of a way to exact his revenge on Ghost in a manner more frightening than he intended, reminding Kanan who the toughest out of the both of them is. The decision to hold Tariq for ransom mapped out a way for Kanan to hit Ghost in his pocket and his heart in one fell swoop.</p>
<p>In a season that seemed to dedicate itself to asking questions, will season 4 be dedicated solely to answering them, or further delaying Ghost&#8217;s quest to put his past behind him?</p>
