So, it is quite encouraging when you hear the story of Ami Rawal Desai, the 38-year-old mother of two, who is juggling a successful career as a lifestyle influencer on Instagram while taking care of her family and with a third baby in tow, during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Desai graduated with a degree in Mass Communications from the University of California, Berkeley. She then obtained her post-graduate degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University. Desai worked in a variety of positions in the media industry – as a TV producer on E! Entertainment, on Inside Edition, and on CNN. While she was working in television, she even transitioned into being a makeup artist with a specialization for South Asian Bridal makeup. Currently, she has turned into a professional beauty and lifestyle expert, and makes a ton of appearances on morning talk shows. She can often be seen on shows like the Home & Family TV, KTLA 5 News, etc.

Desai prefers to take things in her stride. She believes there is no right way to split time between career and family. It is nearly impossible to give each aspect of your life equal preference. Therefore, it makes sense to give time to a task according to the need. The most natural part of about being a mother, indeed, about being a parent, is just being there for your children when they need you.

When she was serving as a host for an online digital show on Oprah.com, she was a mother to a one-year-old and pregnant with her second child. That is when she knew that she would have to figure out a way to manage all it all or risk her career.

As a first-generation American born of immigrant Indian parents, Desai is no stranger to hard work, having struggled a lot initially in the media.

“I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy task. I was alone in the industry with no one like me to look up to. I succeeded mainly by remaining true to myself,” she says.

Today, Desai is one of the few mothers in the media, who openly discusses motherhood and beauty for women above the age of 35. And she certainly shows no signs of stopping!
