Snoop Dogg is joining the ranks of legends like James Brown, George Clinton, the Bee Gees among others in being named a BMI Icon at the BMI Urban Awards.

The ceremony will take place at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, California on August 26th. A variety of artists will participate in a tribute to the west coast hip hop veteran.

According to AllHipHop, “Snoop, who made his debut in 1992 with the album Doggystyle, was selected because of his ‘unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.'”
