This weekend, people gathered for the fourth edition of the annual Afro-Latino Festival in New York City to honor their culture and collectively heal through music. Powerful and poignant topics were engaged throughout the festivities. On Friday, festival-goers met at the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, one of the festival’s many sponsors, to discuss issues affecting Afro-latinos in the United States today. These topics included Immigration and Marginalization and the Black Lives Matter Movement.

On Saturday and Sunday, the festival shuffled over to the Bed-Stuy’s Restoration Plaza where many afro-latino featured artists performed, including Cuban DJ Jigüe and Garifuna musician Aurelio Martinez. All in all, the festival was an enormous hit as hundreds gathered to celebrate their heritage and to discuss important issues, like the Black Lives Matter Movement. Afro-Latino Festival: celebrating, educating, and affirming

Afro-Latino Festival is back again in NYC, and we are giving away a 3-day pass for the event (July 8-10).

Here’s what we need from you: Tell us why you want to the event by July 7th, 12pm EST. We also need you guys to follow Afro Latino on social media.

About the event: Happening in New York (Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza), Afro-Latino Festival is the celebration of contributions that people of African descent from Latin America and the Caribbean have given to the city; also on a global scale. Bringing together both local and global dominate artists, the 3-day festival is celebrating its fourth year.

The festivities will include performances by Tito Puente, Nina Sky, El CaribeFunk, and much more. Film screening of “Nana Dijo” will make its debut as well. Plus there will be late night DJ parties, which is sure to be a blast.
