Aaron Rose Delivers Brand New EP – ‘Elixir’ (Stream)

After shedding his former pseudonym of A La $ole, Pro Era member Aaron Rose dropped a number of noteworthy singles and killed every guest feature. But with the release of his new EP, Elixir, the Brooklyn rapper has never sounded more focused or motivated, and it’s only a taste of what’s to come from the young artist.

His tenacity becomes clear as soon as opener “The Root of Sole” hits your ear with its mad-scientist samples and production from J57 (he produced five of the EP’s seven tracks). And then in comes Rose to bring it all together, flexing his breathless flow and dizzying wordplay.

From there, the BK native continues to rip apart the instrumentals, including the jazzier “Break It Down,” featuring Domo Genesis and the more militant “Parkside Ave.” More than just a rapper with incredible chops, Rose also reveals pieces of his personality and background on those same tracks. Like on “Break It Down” when he rhymes, ”’A black man who knows what his worth is, I’m off the circuits/ From this American horror story, we in the circus”

Elsewhere, he eviscerates his critics on standouts “The Art of Sole” and “Swank Corleone,” the latter of which is produced by Latrell James. Rose also gets an opportunity to stunt alongside fellow Pro Era member Dirty Sanchez on “The Shift,” a slapper produced by The Audible Doctor.

Amidst the variety in sounds, the project remains distinctly the work of its host emcee. And he drives that point home when speaking on Elixir, saying succinctly: “I am Aaron Rose and this is my elixir.”

Elixir is now available via Coalmine Records through all major digital retailers and can be purchased on CD through Fat Beats and UGHH. Limited edition purple/pink vinyl copies will be ready shortly after the new year! Give the project a spin right here, courtesy of RESPECT.

RESPECT. The Track: Aaron Rose – “Parkside Ave” (prod. by J57)

Take a trip to Pro Era rapper Aaron Rose’s stomping grounds on “Parkside Ave,” the grimy new single from his much anticipated new EP, Elixir.

Whereas previous single “Swank Corleone” was a straight-up banger, “Parkside Ave” showcases the Brooklyn artist’s ability to flow effortlessly over a grittier instrumental. It comes courtesy of J57, who provided a majority of the beats on Elixir. And on this track, his production is all murk and head-nodding drums.

Of course, the artist formerly known as A La $ole uses the Boom bap backdrop to his advantage, especially when nearly blacking out during the final verse. It’s another impressive display of just how technically gifted Rose is as an emcee, but more importantly, it’s another reminder that Elixir is shaping up to be one of the year’s finest Hip-Hop releases.

“Parkside Ave” can now be streamed, and is available for download as the second instant grat track off the iTunes pre-order for Elixir, which drops next Friday, December 16th, via Coalmine Records.

#MusicMonday: Aaron Rose – “Swank Corleone” (prod. by Latrell James)

Pro Era member Aaron Rose delivers a tough-as-nails new heater, ”Swank Corleone,” that also serves as the lead single off his long-awaited EP,Elixir.

While a majority of the EP is produced by fellow Brooklynite, J57, “Swank Corleone” finds Rose collaborating with Boston artist Latrell James. And the result is one of the heaviest tracks the emcee has released to date. He has his own rhymes to thank for that, because he blends ridiculous wordplay with an even crazier flow that he rattles off over massive bass and moody piano keys.

The skittering instrumental is the perfect complement to Rose’s bars, which combine tough-talk bravado (“My ni**a, I’m very clever/ Let me guess, you too?) with some shots aimed at his critics. Just peep these lines: “Step into my ring, get boxed in/ The most diverse, but they sayin’ we boxed in/ So even if you drop a pin, you couldn’t find me.” You may think you know what Rose and his Pro Era cohorts have to offer, but you’d also be dead wrong.
