Soul Singer Riz Shares Intense New Video “Lonely Road”

During times like this we needed a visual that is dedicated to the problems surrounding racism, the justice system, and police brutality in America. Today, we want to share a new video from Atlanta based R&B and soul singer Riz. She just released her new song “Lonely Road” that features Jahi Gilkey and Donovan Michael. The video itself shows three different perspectives of how one feels about the recurring issues but ultimately agreeing that it is time to take matters into our own hands.

Richard Pigkaso Releases “Lusus Naturae”

“Lusus Naturae” is the new album by Bronx native and hip-hop artist Richard Pigkaso. The album’s title, which means “Freak of Nature”, tells the story of Pigkaso’s adventure into his alternate universe. The album from beginning to end gives you the spectrum of his life with songs like “Hometown Hero” whose title captures the essence of Richard Pigkaso being an Independent Hip Hop Artist from New York City. His latest release takes several twists and turns with high-energy tracks like “Crazy Ride” and slow self-reflection pieces like “Overthinking”.

Pigkaso also touches on current social issues in his songs like “A Different Hand“ (LGTBQ Acceptance) Revolution (Gentrification), Crazy Ride (Drunk Driving) and the title of the album (Fat Shaming). Pigkaso even personalizes the album with a sense of loss and dealing with pain with tracks like “Coors Light and a Paper” and “Eternal Rest”, tributes to his grandfather who recently transitioned to everlasting life. With this record, he is expressing that you should be and original, and that you are everything beautiful in this world. Allow him to take you on a journey of discovery filled with smiles, pain, love, heartbreak, happiness and just damn good music!

What is your name and what city do you rep?

Hey I go by the name is Roc’a Wrld aka Roc’a Veli I’m from the West End of The Greater Toronto Area. I rep my heritage in Nova Scotia for the escaped freedom fighters who made it to Canada from the underground rail roads, I refuse to call my ancestors slaves but ya that’s the reason for my 902 chain and I rep my kingdom in Nigeria where half my family reside in Benin city where I got the name for my record label from. So in reality I rep my mob my family my people and anyone from the struggle looking for a way out.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest release is my Makaveli X ep and what inspired me to make this ep is the visions I received from my ancestors 9 years ago when I originally made these tracks. I never released all the songs because it was ahead of my own time and I didn’t feel people would appreciate it as much as feel they will now. The flow on most of the EP is influenced by one of my favourite artists of all time Tupac Shakur. The death of my cousin really pushed me to get this music out because the tracks on it is how we meet, I had coming from da west video on world star hip hop and when her brother saw it he msg me and we found out we was family from that conversation we had online. Also all the police brutality and weapons formed against us to destroy us as a people, really influenced me to create music to fight back.

What is unique about you and your music?

What’s unique about me and my music is the amount of flows and melodies I can create on many different types of songs and genres from conscious to trap, club tracks to Afro beats that is coming soon. Also my journey in the music I believe is a lot different from other artist that are currently at the top.

What shaped your music?

What shaped my music is the trips back to the Mother Land, listening to Malcom X speeches growing up on west coast music like NWA Tupac Shakur, E40, too short and many more. of course the east coast legends such as Rakim, LL cool j, Jay z and biggie have a big influence on how I approach a track. But I gotta give it to 2pac & Fela kuti on being political in my music.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

When I seen how much independent artist are getting paid, I said why not create another stream of income on what I love to do.

What type of music do you listen to?

80’s 90’so hip hop and R&B, dipset and the g unit era of music and some of the music that’s out right now like Tory Lanez, Drake Pop smoke, Meek Mill, Nipsey Hussle. I listen to Afro beats reggae and reggaeton music as well. I got big range of music I listen to and different genres

What inspires you to write music?

My life and the life of my friends and family around me. And most of all fighting oppression and systemic racism. I also want to bring good and positive vibes to people lives through music.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I’m passionate about health and fitness. My main hustle for some time after leaving the street life was selling health and fitness with corporate gyms then moved it to my own company named So Marvelous where I sell massagers and fitness bands and equipment. That y’all can find on Amazon.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

Invest invest and invest, make sure you sound good and never give up

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

I’m Currently working on a project with Dj YaBoy Earl a big mentor for me in understanding the music business as an owner of a label and as an independent artist who has previously work with Kevin Gates. The Project Titled is “Win Before I Start” because that’s the mind set I feel you have to have in anything you want to win in and be successful at. I Have three singles already released from the project “1017”, “awards” and “splash” is already doing numbers three up coming Bangers to look out for. I will be doing a music video for my next single I release before the whole tape comes out so look out for that!
