Brent Faiyaz’s manager and business partner Ty Baisden, who first discovered Brent back in 2014 while the young indie R&B crooner was working as a sandwich maker at Harris Teeter grocery store deli in Charlotte, NC chopped it up with us. The unstoppable duo soaked in the success from Faiyaz’s recently released sophomore album Wasteland, that is already dominating the charts and reaching new heights for a fully independent artist team, Baisden is working to add published author to his title.
Due out on August 24, 2022, Baisden readies his debut book titled The Colture Playbook Vol.1, which stands for Can Our Leverage Teach Us
With The Colture Playbook Vol.1, Baisden shares meticulous details on the major label system, royalty rates, creative independence, the value and ownership of black art, and more. The book was birthed from a series of articles where Yoh interviews Ty on to break in the music industry while keeping your sanity and well-being.
Atlanta native Ty Baisden has mastered the art of marketing independent talent in a major way. A graduate of Georgia State University with a Masters in Sports Management, Baisden is co-founder of Colture Holdings where he is cultivating an environment to nurture independent talent into business owners that can operate a global business. Standing for “Can Our Leverage Teach Us Real Equity”, Colture is a methodology he designed for women and black creatives to manifest sustained wealth and independence. The pioneer artist of Baisden’s unique business methods, Brent Fiayaz, has earned RIAA 4x Platinum status and a GRAMMY award all the while owning his own masters and never being signed to a major label. Baisden’s roster also includes GRAMMY-winning producer Nascent and numerous developing artists such as Tre’ Amani, Kalisway, and more; along with business development artist/songwriter Bibi Bourelly & Malcolm Mays.
Biasden has developed his tactics into a multimillion-dollar business and now plans to share his breadth of knowledge with others in the form of his manifesto The Colture Playbook Vol.1 , developed with acclaimed journalist Yoh Phillips. This combines the lessons he’s learned through his several successful artist partnerships, working with GRAMMY-winning and multi-platinum artists and producers. The forward-thinking executive has created a proven pipeline for creatives to create ownership driven art, building their businesses while protecting their intellectual property and treating them as founders in their careers. His independent publishing company, Cowboys & Pirates, aims to “empower, educate, and develop our talent the right way.”
