When we give more power to creators, we’re giving their art the freedom to shape the future. Today, we’re proud to celebrate the 1-year anniversary of EQUAL – Spotify’s global commitment dedicated to fostering equity for women in audio and celebrating their contributions.
EQUAL shines a spotlight on women artists and podcast creators through global partnerships, activations, new content experiences, and on and off platform support, including:
- The EQUAL Hub, a dedicated space on-platform that highlights women creators and allows fans to seamlessly stream their music and podcasts and tap into the power of listening to shift the status quo.
- The EQUAL Global Music Program, which was created to foster equity for women in countries – from Japan to Argentina, and from Malaysia to the US – through 35 EQUAL local playlists along with a “best-of” flagship EQUAL Global Playlist.
To celebrate the 1-year anniversary, we collaborated with some of the incredible women featured in our EQUAL program to create this video: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbz6ggGM5ha/
EQUAL is doing its part in turning up the volume on women creators – just in the past year…
- Spotify has supported more than 400 EQUAL Ambassadors globally
- 36 days in the last year where EQUAL Ambassadors have been showcased on our Times Square Billboard
- And, in the first month of joining the program, EQUAL artists have:
- Seen more than 13 million hours of listening from users on Spotify
- Been added to over 1,000 different playlists
As we reflect on EQUAL’s first year, Spotify acknowledges the work that lies ahead in fostering gender equity in the music industry and beyond. As the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service, Spotify takes its responsibility of highlighting and amplifying women’s voices seriously by curating top audio destinations for women artists with global playlists like Women of Electronic, Women of K-Pop, Women of Rock, and Galdem to name a few.
